Heads up on an outstanding bicycle frame...
 

This is a limited-edition Serotta-built titanium Schwinn Paramount. It was hand built for one year only in Sarasota Springs N.Y., by Ben Serotta. I have one of these, and IMO, only the most up-to-date carbon compares in speed and handling to this 11 yr old frameset. Sure, carbon is lighter, and steel may have a more cushioned ride, but if you guys really want a perfect combination between race weight, good ride and longevity, (Ti doesn't rust), you should look into this frame.

I'm not affiliated with the seller. I just know there's a few serious cyclists here who as Porsche owners, can appreciate a truly well-made purpose-built frame. This is one of those rare bikes that will make you a better cyclist.

I would have but also too big for me. I am waiting for a Ridley. they can't get my size. Out of stock. Just my luck. Now, I am looking at something else. I have a really really clean Dura Ace 9 speed gruppo I like to sell. I have been thinking about doing that for 2 years now. I no longer need it so where's a good place to sell? DD how much do you think its worth?

DA 9 should go for about $400-450. Mostly vintage guys and cyclo cross racers use that now, FWIK.

How tall are you? A medium-sized Ridley fits a lot of sizes. Where the adjustments happen are in the bars, stem and seat. You definitely should be fitted for this frame. Many of the reviews on roadbike review suggest the Ridley works best if professionally fitted.

5'6" I like a smaller frame so small is it for now. I know my dimension and it has been like that for 25 years. I just transfer them over for ethe new bike. This might be my last one. I know you ride at the park sometimes. Have you ever gone out with the group that go over La Tuna on Sunday or was it Saturdays? I need a slow group to ride with so I can build strength again.

Why do cyclocross guys like the 9 spd groups?

I used to have two Paramounts, a really tight road bike and a track bike that I used at the Encino velodrome.
They weren't Ti though, double-butted Reynolds 531 manganese molybdenum alloy IIRC.
Pretty darned light and stiff for back then.
The road bike was so tight a sneeze would result in a 90 degree turn ;)
I rode for team paramount but it wasn't a real Schwinn sponsorship.
That was a really long time ago ;)

Up until recently I was riding a Masi Grand Criterium hand built for me in Italy in 1972.
I have had many custom built road bikes including some of the earliest Elan carbons and a custom built Moulton and I always came back to the Masi.

I'm also 5'6," but have a long torso and arms. We should meet so you can check out my Ridley. I'm always in the park, so you should grab what you have to ride with, and do a couple easy laps with me.

I've done the La Tuna ride a couple times on Sunday. I don't think an average speed of about 25 mph is that slow. You just have to pick and choose your speed and finish the ride. I never care if I'm dropped or not.

Why do cyclocross like 9-speed? I don't know to be honest. I have heard, however, that DA 9-speed is one of the strongest groups ever made. It's practically indestructible.

Yeah. It sounds like you had the Waterford-built Paramount (s) that are really pricey these days. I've seen some of those 531 Paramount frames go for $2,500. :eek:

I bet if someone built a 531 Paramount with modern Dura Ace, light stem, handlebars, post, seat and wheels, the bike would come in at less than 17 pounds, and more than take care of its rider in a group ride or race.

What years were you at the track. I hung out there for a bit during the mid 80s. You must know Meat Head? He must have been there from the late 70s to the late 80 early 90s.

That one must have been built by old man Masi himself. I visited the shop under the velodrome in Milan about 9-10 years ago and wanted a frame build but it did not work out. This was his son that ran the little shop.

I also have monkey arms. I ride a 120mm stem on a regular road bike with a 53top tube, 52 seat tube. What pack? What day? I have been going to the Park around 2:30 or so. I was only able to squeeze in one ride per week, and I can only do one lap around burbank and I am dead. this is what happens when you stop riding for 10 years. Last Friday was my 3rd ride. Let me get in a couple more rides to get my fat azz use to the pain from the saddle. I don't want to slow you down.

Holy crap, the LaTuna ride is that fast now? they use to take their time to slowly warm up until they get to La Tuna, then all hell breaks loose. I try to hang with the real men, then they always dropped me half way up the hill. Do you do the Montrose ride? Now that's lot of fun. My goal is to get stronger so I can hang with the old Montrose boys. They will drop you doing down hill on the way to So Pas through LaCanada to meet up with the other group before they go out on Huntington Dr.

Yeah, strong all right. I have crashed on then and they hold up just fine. I am on my 3rd gruppo.

DD, what do you think of these SRAM products?

I'll be out and about sometime this afternoon when the weather clears, although I may do the Nichols run. It looks like it's about to rain.

On one bike I have SRAM cranks and rear gearset. Not bad stuff, actually. I think the lowest end SRAM and Shimano are more than enough for everyone but the hardest core rider (who is sponsored). Plus, there's the trickle down theory. Today's Shimano 105 is what Dura Ace 7800 was two or three years ago. So keep that in mind.

From 1979 to 1981. Tried to make at least two Wednesday's a month but it was a long drive and I was going to college at the time so money was tight.
Don't remember a meat head but that was a long time ago.

I never did that well on the track, some nights I did decent but never great.
Centurions were my specialty.
