One year aniversary

One year this week I have been sucking up obama money, cut lose after eight years, the company went from 1100 down to 700 something when it was my turn. Now they are down in the low 500s. The office in Phoenix went from 150 to maybe 30. They like most other companies will never get back, they won't be hiring many people, they are doing with what they have, the people still there work harder and are happy to still have a job so nobody complains about long hours.
We have taken a couple trips and plan on some more, might as well see something since the chance of a job is slim. My wifes company got bought by someone in Texas so her last day was in September. We weren't going to Texas.
They only wanted manufacturing and she wasn't in that.
The only real bad thing is I don't exercise as much as I did when I worked, just getting heavier. I hope it isn't the beer, I have tried to cut out bread and cheese.

Here's a shot of the coast this evening as we went for a walk.

In my travels, I see so many companies and factories and offices that are empty and I don't think they will EVER come back. This economy sucks and I don't see anytime soon when it will come back. These were good paying jobs that supported so many others; but the King O will save us from despair and degloom. Here's to you and your's for a better future.

Thanks,

Is it too early for that Hopey Changey thing?

I've been helping my brother in Atlanta on some projects for the past two years, which means I commute back and forth. I'm amazed at how many businesses, stores, restaurants, auto dealers, etc. I see empty and closed down between here and Atlanta. And it seems like more every day. I started helping him after I was let go after 18 years at a regional builder. They went from 1200 down to about 300 in two years. Probably less now.

Come July/August, I'll be done helping him and looking for something closer to home. Hopefully it won't be charity work this time...

In about the same boat. Laid off in August after working full time for a year, been on and off the dole since then. Been lucky to find some contract work to cover the bills (unemployment does not) and things are finally starting to look up in my area...

Well we were just up in Vancouver and I think they missed any recession, what with building for the Olympics and all.
