Jag Tire Question

Time for new tires on the XJR, which wears 255/40/18.
I have been running Continental ContiSportContact 3, but am looking at other options, such as Toyo Proxies.. Any thoughts on a good high performance tire for a 4 door sedan with 390HP???

I almost went with Proxies on a Volvo 850 Turbo. Wish I did. Got Yokohamas instead. They were fine also.

I bet Proxies would do well on that Jag. I have them on my 911 and they feel pretty good.

What size tires are you running on the 911? 205/225's?

May have to get some new "shoes" for the car once it gets out and kinda looking.

when I put tires on my XJR, i had a heck of a time finding a decent tire. I have the stock 17" wheels, and it REALLY limited my options

Off topic but beautiful car. How does it run and how reliable has it been? I am looking to own one in the future and budgeting for a rebuilt autobox.

I have 205/225 Yokohamas on my car. I have no complaints about the set up at all and like the look of slightly wider tires in the rear. Then again, my 944 is laying down more power to the pavement than that 911 of yours

I've put 30,000 miles on mine in the last two years. Not a single issue. Mine is the same color as Byron's...carnival red. not sure if his is 98 or later. 95-97 had the famous inline 6, that was supercharged with an Eaton M90. The 98 and later cars had the supercharged Lincoln LS engine.

I've got a '97, so I have the blown big-six.

You mentioned rebuilding the gearbox...that's not a weak point in these cars at all, at least for the 95-97 cars. They used the GM 4L80E (it's a TH400....same as in corvettes, hummers, and even the Ferrari 400i)

Thanks and that was what I was thinking of running.

BTW, my 3.6 equipped 911 has a bit more HP than your car does!

Have owned several Jags and if you get one before 1987 they can be iffy. After 1994 and by that time Ford had done wonders to their reliability.

Had a wonderful 2000 model S-Type with the 4.0 V-8 engine. Loved the car and it did not let me down a single time. The newer models are very nice and very reliable.

A 95-97 XJR will probably be my next purchase. The 4.0 inline six NA isn't exactly a slouch, the SC'd version has to be a hoot.

The later V8 R's use the 4L80E too? That is a nice transmission!

You do realize that my 944 is the NA, it does not have one of those noisy turbo things that creates all that excess HP....lol

Been very happy with it and it is FAST and hasn't been a maintenance problem.

Byron, I think the Continental ExtremeContact DW would be a really good tire for your Jag... $220 each in your size, though.
