Another case of clueless people...leaving a 6mo baby on the floor with dogs around...WTF lady? The incident is 100% the Mom's fault and in this sort of situation I don't think the dog breed is necessarily a contributing factor - as commented in the story the dogs could have been looking for a poop snack in the diaper...

After the recent post here for adoption of a Siberian Husky I have been checking local animal shelters for a possible family dog. Sad that the majority of available dogs are all PB related breed. I know there are PB lovers here, and for the most part the breed has been abused, but for us a PB is a total non-starter as a family pet.

Still you never leave an infant or child alone with any dog.

LOL, seriously. I have 4. 2 are declawed, (came that way), the other two are not.

Turok, one of the males is more like a dog than a cat. Runs to the door when the doorbell rings. Greets everyone that comes in. Very social, very affectionate but he's getting a little on in years so has his aches and pains.

Like any cat if he does not want to be bothered he'll usually find someplace quiet. But it has happened in the past were my kids have not understood the "leave me alone" body language and they get tagged. Not a big deal if he scratches their arm or hand but if he gets an eye........

With my kids it's my cat so it's my problem but with neighbors kids, not taking the chance.

One of our local free papers ran a piece about defending yourself from pit bulls. The backlash was so bad that they wound up writing a follow up piece about defending yourself from pit bull owners.

In my experience, their bad image is well deserved (both the dogs and the owners).

My MIL believed this to be true and always cast a wary eye at the cat when she was babysitting...

I believe the root of that wives tale stemmed from cats licking the babies face for the breast milk.

Catch a cat in the crib along with a case of SIDS and there you go.

That's good stuff! I agree, pits are not good dogs to have in a community. Rotties are no big deal (they all become wimpering piles when you scratch their haunches).

Sid, there's a classical case report in psych literature. Identical twin boys were born. The physician performing the circumcision used some sort of new cautery device (the psych literature I read as an undergrad never specified exactly what the procedure was beyond that). One circumcision went fine. In the other, the penis was burned off.

After consultation with the parents, the second boy underwent some sort of gender reassignment. Castration, raised as a girl from infancy, etc. I don't know/recall the extent of the gender reassignment surgery. It was a fantastic psychological experiment: what happens if you raise a genetic boy as a girl? Your control is the "normal" identical twin. You have the same familial circumstances to reduce confounding factors.

Somewhere in the kids' teen years, the study was broken off at the request of the family. It seems as if it was entirely too painful (psychologically) for the "girl" to continue. I can only imagine how F'd up a life she must have led. Even if she's fine now, it certainly was not an easy time getting here.
