Not even thinking about what WE are doing to the planet, think about what an asteroid could do...we could be wiped out in the blink of an eye.
In fact, we just had a passer-by this week, as I recall, inside our own moon's orbit. Now that's close...

Who here wants to chip into a collection to send M21 to Mars?

I'll lead the donation charge... ;)

What would a person actually do on Mars?

KT

KaptKaos 04-15-2010 09:52 PM

Not for me.

I admire those that would be willing, and maybe in my younger days I would have said yes. Now, with a wife and family, I'd have to pass.

W/e you wanted... You've got a WHOLE PLANET to yourself....

Would the mission get to Mars with enough equipment and supplies to actually do more than past and future rovers have done or can do? To drill to some meaningful depth, to collect and analyze, to explore a reasonable area? Or will the astronaut get to Mars after a 1-2 year (?) flight, just to walk around a bit, collect some surface rocks, plant a flag, and come home (maybe)?

Schumi 04-15-2010 10:20 PM

If I remember correctly, at best trajectory you can make it to mars in 9 months.

Wow, my own personal troll. Outstanding.

Going to Mars? It makes going to the moon look like a trip around the corner.
It will happen. It's just a matter of time but will any of us still be alive?

Hypothetically... Yes, If I had to opportunity I would most likely go.

But the truth is nobody knows what they would do for sure until the opportunity becomes real.

Hypothetical are always interesting but real life is something else again.

slakjaw 04-16-2010 05:46 AM

yes

Gene-o 04-16-2010 10:06 AM

If NASA had a program to take middle aged, overweight men without college degrees and make them into astronauts, I'd sign up in a heartbeat!

not the point

the REAL issue is the goal of being the FIRST HUMAN BEING to land on another world and piss on the ground

I very carefully did not capitalize cheesesteak, nor did I give it any geographic references, because I knew that one of you cheese eating surrender monkeys from Philly would flip your freaking top over the thought that someone outside your single intersection there could mix steak, cheese, onions, and such, grill it, and put it on a bun.

It even had jalapenos and a mustard sauce on it, OMG the HORROR!

Tobra 04-17-2010 09:04 PM

Best cheesesteak sandwich I ever had was in a little dink ass, deep East Texas town, they also had killer onion rings. I have been to both the places in Philly that claim to be the best, neither one is.

Best steak I ever had in my life was in a little cafe in Nebraska.

I considered the original question further, and would definitely not go. My grandchildren deserve to have me around.

The best place in Philly is Steves Prince of Steaks on Bustleton avenue.

In my opinion.

I bet there are no cheesesteaks on Mars.
