Atkin's diet special
|
I'm hungry now...
|
I think by double down, they intend to bury you 12 feet under after consuming two fried chicken breasts around some bacon and cheese.
|
no atkins would have deleted the coating.........all else is good tho

KFC's Double Down has two pieces of fried chicken bacon and cheese, but still has fewer calories than other fast food items
D. Yamazaki WGN News April 12, 2010 Whether you're a fan of fast food or not, you've probably heard of the heart-stopping Double Down chicken sandwich from KFC. The fast food chain, best known for its fried chicken in a bucket, has come out with a sandwich comprised of two pieces of fried chicken in place of bread with bacon and cheese in the middle, handily served in a paper wrapper: This is the Double Down. While the very sight of this new on-the-go food item might scream caloric devastation, is the actual number of calories really that might higher than other fast food items? If you take a look at the nutrition facts for other fast food items, it turns out the the KFC Double Down falls right in the middle (if not on the lower-end) of recent fast-food product releases: KFC's New Creations Original Recipe Double Down: 540 calories, 32 g fat, 1,380 mg sodium Grilled Double Down: 460 calories, 23 g fat, 1,430 mg sodium McDonald's Angus Bacon and Cheese Burger: 790 calories, 39 g fat, 2,070 mg sodium McSkillet Burrito with Sausage 610 calories, 36 g fat, 1390 mg sodium Burger King's New Creations In the battle of artery-clogging menu items, Burger King debuted the BK Quad Stacker in the fall of 2009. The burger comprises of four beef patties, eight half-pieces of bacon, and four slices of cheese. In addition to the high caloric and fat content, this burger also has 31 grams of sugar. The Quad Stacker: 930 calories, 65 g fat, 1,740 mg sodium So while the new Double Down from KFC does up the ante as far as fried fast food goes, it hardly breaks the standard for calorie-busting fast food options. |
Hey, it's probably got "No Trans Fat", right?
|
I know what i'm getting for lunch today.
Double down for me! :) |
No trans fat destroyed KFC for me. Tastes like crap now. Not to mention $30 for a bucket of chicken.
Popeye's. |
Those sodium numbers are incredible. 1500 mg sodium is about 2/3 teaspoon of table salt. Add a side of fries and then imagine sitting down and pouring an entire teaspoon of table salt on your lunch.
The grilled chicken at KFC is actually not bad, nutritionally. As is any of the other chicken if you remove the skin and breading. The breading is where most of the fat and a lot of the calories is. Guess its hard to remove the breading/skin from a Double Down. |

but, but, but tests show that "that is what people want."
I like KFC but that is way too much for me. Now, Subway's breakfast items are pretty good. |
Don't know. I was referring to the grilled chicken pieces. Didn't know about the grilled Double Down.

My wife broke her leg in an icestorm last year. After being in the hospital for 11 hours, I took her to KFC. I never take her there, but it was comfort food.
Wendys has chicken, BLT and cheese on a bun for 99 cents. I will go for one of those if I am splurging. |
Had one the other day, it was like a chicken cordon-bleu with a side of heart attack.
|
|
Wow the thought of that gave me the heart flutters - oh yes.

People order salads, then pile on bacon, dressing, and croutons and then think they are eating "light". I'd be more worried about non-decomposable foods and fiber than anything else. Remember the Morgan Spurlock MD's documentary where the fries didn't break down after months? What would that stuff do in the colon? |
Sounds pretty healthy to me! I'll take two!
|
It's all relative, fast food just isn't the best for you...no matter where you go:
KFC's New Creations Original Recipe Double Down: 540 calories, 32 g fat, 1,380 mg sodium Grilled Double Down: 460 calories, 23 g fat, 1,430 mg sodium McDonalds Southwest Chicken Salad w/dressing 420 calories, 15g fat, 1300 mg sodium Taco Bell's Chicken Quesidillia 540 calories, 30 g fat, 1310 mg sodium And I can go on and on. The point is, there's some heroes and goats on every fast food menu, with many seemingly healthy (when they're not) and others seemingly incredibly bad for you (when they're no worse than others). It comes down to, you make the choices on what you consume...but the only way you can make good choices is by doing a little research. OBTW, don't think your sit down restaurants are any better!! Anyways, I have that chicken quesidillia on occasions, now may consider the "double down", or even better, eat at home. |
Tried the "double down" tonight. It was really pretty good.
|
Yeah, its even better if you order it with extra bacon and cheese. And don't forget the potato wedges wash it all down with a tall coke.
|
I had a grilled double down last night, mostly because I figured why not after this thread. It wasn't bad, but it was very salty. A little less salt and it would have been pretty good.
|
Even better...Got my weekly carryout $10 (any type) large (Peperoni Lover's Pizza) pizza from Pizza Hut tonight. Love that sale! We either get the Super Supreme Pan or Peperoni Lover's thin crust almost every week since the sale began. Take it home and pig out with a Jack and Coke...or with my wifes favorite...with Jack and Cherry Coke. Since it just the two of us, we get two meals out of one large. My lovely wife had a salad ready to go with it tonight.
I grilled chicken and made Margaritas last night. That was pretty darned good too. |
Yeah, one of the three major food groups "salt, sugar and fat".
|
I always imagine there's a room full of "food engineers" at every fast food corporation who sit around contemplating "how can we make Americans fatter?". Whenever I hear the Taco Bell "Fourth Meal" commercials, I want to kick-in the radio.
