Anyone ever heard of that school? Got a friend that wants to go there, i was curious if it's a reputable place. Thanks for any input. |

It's recognized by the Department of Education, but now sure if the "accreditation" really means anything.

Seriously, i need input. I'd hate to see my friend waste her time and money at a mickey mouse school. It seems like a "regular" university would make far more sense.

It sounds like a mickey mouse school. it's a career/vocational school. not that there's anything wrong with that, but she needs to realize what she's paying for

I know someone who went there. As far as I know, it's an excellent school, but like any school, you only get out of it what you put into it. This guy didn't put maximum effort into it. He would leave town and come back here for the weekend every chance he got. He weathered a couple of the many hurricanes that hit during the time he was there, then would leave in advance of the others. I think it was '04-'05.
I think his old man paid $30-40K for the 14-month course of study. He (the guy) consulted me on whether I thought he should go there or a state-supported university here. He had always thought he wanted to be involved in the film industry, so I told him to go for it. As he came up on graduation, I encouraged him to meet with some of his favorite profs and get their advice and help on job placement... ideas for where he could go to get his foot in the door. He wimped out when he realized it would probably mean moving to NY or CA and being away from his friends here. So me moved back to town and is working two or three jobs to pay his way through the University of SC... his dad would have paid for that if he had decided to go that way from the beginning, but now he's humpin' it himself.

I got a personal tour of their facility back in the 80's. Was a very cool place. State of the art at that time and I wanted to attend, but finances weren't permitting. At one time, they were considered to be the best school for this field. Don't really know how they rank now.

My nephew went to FS and i know probably 6-8 other folks who did. It's a great facility and you can learn a lot there.
Of course it's pretty meaningless if/when she graduates whether or not she'll get a job AT ALL doing ANYTHING she learned there, if that makes sense. The thing about creative fields is that there's a lot of 'self-motivators' out there, and self-motivators go and learn stuff and just do it. Other people go to school.

I suggested she get an MBA, because with an MBA you can work in any industry you want, including the music industry. |

Hey Gogar and Lane, would it be cool if i had the girl contact you two, since you're both in the industry she's trying to get into?
She's a really nice girl, i'd like to help her as much as possible with this decision making process. |

Here's another one:
If she wants to work in the music industry doing 'production' etc., she can intern at a studio or something, and work her way up. Or she can go to Full Sail and when she graduates she can intern at a studio and work her way up, but at least she'll know what everyone's talking about while she does it. If I did school again I would do a "3+2" program where you get a BA in music in 3 years, and an MBA in the next 2. I opted for a 4-year "bachelors of music", which looks great on your resume when you apply at Starbucks or Guitar Center, etc. Maybe she could find a college that offers some kind of "3+2" program and she could cover the bases and have a backup, like you suggest.

LOL!
No chance. I'm not posting any more pix of girls on this forum so that some hateful troll can come along and say things about them that they would never say to either my face or the girl's in person in 10,000 years. That ship has sailed. |
