Let's talk about flintlocks

I just got this with a collection of firearms.
Does anyone have any information about the J.J. Luke.
It's a 45 cal with set trigger.

i challenge you to a duel!!

Seen and shot a lot of muzzleloading pistols but never seen one with a barrel extension like that.

Whats it look like from the front? Can you figure out any reason for the addition?

I will bet that muzzle extension comes off! If it does it is called a FALSE MUZZLE...and is an aid in loading the pistol so as not to damage the crown of the bore when loading. IT IS TO BE REMOVED BEFORE FIRING> U also DO NOT want to lose that piece as it is NOT REPLACEABLE, it is made when they are making the barrel, you will severly reduce the value of the pistol if you do lose it.

Quite frankly it looks like a TARGET PISTOL...it is a target pistol..

It is contemporary...looks to be a quality piece.

I'll give you $150 for it...

Very nice, Henry. Certainly of modern manufacture, with the adjustable rear sight and all.

Kind of small for a false myzzle, tabby. Pretty tought to hold onto to support the pistol for loading. I wouldn't rule it out, but they are usuallu much bigger than the barrel.

Tuning and shooting a flinter is a challange. I used to do a lot of it years ago. Lots of fun.

Lot of people flinch when the flash pan goes up, before the main charge, and they cannot hit crap. my uncle cannot hit the broad side of a barn with his replica muzzle loader for this very reason.

TABS is correct, it is a false muzzle.
It aid in loading in that the pullet is centered before making contact with the bore. I have a Schutzen muzzle loading rifle with the same attachment.
The pistol is a one of a kind, hand built, target pistol. It was special ordered and took 3 years to complete.
Built for Bob Schmidt for the Ca. Black Powder Championships back in the early 70s.
Here are pictures of the muzzle.
TABS: thank you for the offer but you might be just a tad low.
Cheers

That's what I like about these pistols... It takes discipline to fire one.

It's a bit like the 915 gearbox. ;)
