This is my favorite mustang commercial:

The newest Five-Ohhh is bada$$, an opinion I don't share with the other iterations of the mustang over the last few years.
Porsche fans should be flattered too, the new 5.0 uses nearly identical wheels...... :)

Motor trend already comparing the new 5.0 Mustang's performance specs with the BMW M3...

But, if price didn't enter in? That, and having to go to a big city for service? I'd still prefer the M-3...

On the other hand, when the new 5.o's begin appearing, guess I'll have to toss rocks at my Bullitt...

GH85Carrera 04-22-2010 12:34 PM

Porsche may not be the only one, but there is no substitute!

Sounds like a bad take off of Sheryl Crow:

It's weird that I care, but I totally dig the new 5.0 Mustang. I remember when my uncle had a 1990(?) 5.0 with automatic. What a piece of schit. 225 hp? Felt like a truck. Lumbered along and the auto shifted at 3k, and you couldn't make it go above 4500. He wondered why I liked Porsches

jyl 04-22-2010 04:10 PM

Okay, that Mustang ad is wimpy.

Here is a real "past glory days" ad.

Sheryl Crow just don't get it done for me at all. Kelly Clarkson is like Sheryl Crow with 2 more octaves of range...

All you needed to do was put a shift kit in those 5.0's to make the A/T's work right. Even still, the 5spds were much faster.

In 1990 the Mustang LX 5 speed was one of the fastest q-mile cars available, even with just 225hp.

I went to a NASCAR race in September. Yeah, OK? Let's move on. :) Anyhow, they were running a drift/autocross demo in the parking lot burning the tires of the '10 model. I didn't know they had changed it. I couldn't get it out of my mind for two weeks and went to est drive one. It was fun. I might need to test drive this one. A "5.0" reminds me of the old days. :)

Dixie 04-22-2010 05:26 PM

Geez, y'all have issues... I don't care what emblem is on the hood. A great car is a great car. And Mustangs rock.

The only reason we don't own a Mustang? The passenger seat doesn't slide forward when you tilt the seat back. If you need to drop off more than one child at school each morning, you understand.

pwd72s 04-22-2010 05:28 PM

The more I read about the internals of the soon to be out 5.0, the more I think I bought too soon. My only reason for not trading in is aesthetics...I don't care for the body changes done beginning with the '10 models.

Maybe I should wait for somebody to wrap a 5.0 around a tree, then study the feasibility of a swap...engine, trans, and Brembos, please...

I'm sorely tempted, but the trade would probably cost around $10K, and the Bullitt only has 3,300 miles on the clock.

Hmmmm. It's a 2 step operation, and it's manual (power is optional) on the passenger side, but the passenger seat of my Bullitt slides forward just fine.

Your car will be a collector, if you keep it original. Personally I don't have a problem with the new car's looks, but I would not be buying it for looks, if you know what I mean.

You must have missed the part about the motor. Nothing wimpy there.

Nothing.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-24-2010 07:04 AM

I had a 5.0 years ago. Fun car. I imagine this one would be too. The downside is that it's still "just a rustang" though. 416 hp would be bags of fun even if it's just another rustang that looks like all the other ones out there...

I'd never buy a vehicle that sends even one dime of my money to the UAW though, so it's right out - at least insofar as buying one new.

VaSteve 04-25-2010 08:52 AM

The Mustangs were fun to watch at VIR yesterday....really beating up on far more expensive machines like BMW. I'm sure those are still the current engine, the 5.0s should be impressive.

jyl 04-25-2010 09:19 AM

The past glory part was wimpy. All they can come up with is a few dragstrip moments? I know the Mustang didn't have much racing history, but come on - not even GT350 footage?

So, you'd rather see the footage of new Mustangs beating Caymans on a road course? That could probably be arranged. ;)

I dunno about that.

The Mustang has hp and has a neat combination of modern/retro looks.... but can it turn?

pwd72s 04-25-2010 10:42 AM

Ask the Roush family...they are clobbering the Caymans on a road course...in Mustangs...

Damn...senior moment...forget the race series...going on now.

Ouch! Thank God Linda Rhonstadt didn't make a Mustang commercial...she was so damned hot in her glory days...

Of course many if not most divas are big girls, so i don't really know what that has to do with anything. From a purely vocal standpoint, KC is infinitely more talented and skilled than Cheryl Crow.

911boost 04-25-2010 02:11 PM

I had a 1995 Mustang GT, the last of the 5.0 HO engines (it was actually 4923 ci or something) and it was a fun car. I added some Steeda suspension parts, and it actually handled pretty well.

I'm trying to talk the father in law into one of the 5.0's.

VaSteve 04-25-2010 03:08 PM

Paul... It was Grand Am Rolex, but there were a bunch in the Continental race....air next week. I think they were pretty well matched...no blowouts. BUT the Cayman vs 911 racing was quite tight.

All Trans Am Champions driving Mustangs.

No Speed (nascar) channel here...so, who won the latest round?

Ahh, darn...lol! Btw, followed a '10 Mustang ragtop on I-5 for a bit today. No real tales to tell...besides it was a 6 banger. But this did give me lots of time to study the new rear end styling. Yep, my aesthetics sense prefers the '09 styling...a lot.

Here you go, Paul. '09 and '10 bodies beating up on German sedans. I couldn't find one where they were beating up on water cooled Porsches, but I'm sure it happened. :)

Thanks for the visual proof that today's Mustangs can turn both left & right. Guys, drive one before you condemn them. Ford ain't bad these days...
