A quick word about the Pelican Community.
I just wanted to give kudos to the community here. As many people here know I left 20 years of being an institutional options trader on Wall St. to eventually follow my ideas of getting into the Porsche business. After about 8 months of sitting around the house playing with my then 2 year old son and my cars, my wife suggested that I go over to the local Porsche dealer and see if they would let me sell cars. She was sick of me hanging around the house and garage!! For 16 months I have been learning the business end of the car business and selling, since I never sold anything in my life.
Last night I listed on Pelican a car we had at one of our Franchised Porsche stores, its an 88 coupe with 78k miles on it. We generally don’t see air cooled, despite the fact these are my favorite cars, and we don’t do well with them. We were going to send the car to Auction on Monday but I was given a shot to market the car a bit since we’d rather sell it to a client than at auction. I listed in cars for sale section and let everyone know I don’t make commission on the car and its going to trade at a price much lower than the retail market in these things. I wanted to take a moment to thank the mass of responses and all the offer, and really all the kind words people have said about me and the help I have offered people over the years and years I have been here. After spending 20 years on Wall St, my view of the world is sometimes skewed a bit. I was the straight as an arrow guy who never even had a dress code violation, or foul language violation on the three exchanges where I held seats. On the other hand I did see a lot of sleazy business and typical greed which skewed my opinion of people at times. The kind words from all the people here which were totally unsolicited have restored my opinions and made me appreciate the excellent community here. This post is really just a thanks to the people of this community and affirmation of how much we all love these cars and how nice the people who enjoy the hobby here are. Sincerely, Howard S. aka Trader220

Howard,
I don't know if you have ever met any of the folks on this board in person, but it will completely restore your faith in people. Joeaska, Targa911s, Onewhippedpuppy, Nostatic, Fastpat, Ricklee, Speeder and others...all have either helped, been a friend or provided guidance without guile. Joe in particular. I'd still be trying to get a rental car without his help. Speeder, btw, has no pimp hand...more a pimp toe. ![]() No better person. Edit: And Dave. My son still talks about him, over a year since...breakfast, gun talk and the rest. You simply can't put a value on it. Edit Edit: Everyone sucks.

Hey Howard, I was glad to read your post. I've been thinking it would be a cool job to work at the Porsche dealership. How does one go about getting into a job like that? I guess just go visit? Or do I need to know someone who knows someone, etc? There is a big dealership in Albuquerque that I might like to get to know better... Any advice? PM or email me : scotricker@gmail.com
thanks!

Did the car sell? What's the asking price? I'm long on 88 coupes right now.
