I want to buy a Subaru Brat

I've been looking around for a cheap Subaru Brat. Not a rust bucket, but something I could get cheap and get it running. 1982-1986 preferred.
Please let me know if anything turns up. thanks, Scot.

When I was a kid I wanted my mom to buy one sooooooo badly so I could ride in those cool outside rear seats! If I hear of anything here in LA I'll let you know.

Good luck on your search.

Michael

I'll keep an eye out. I'm always browsing car classifieds.

Brats are truly cool cars. There are a few around, just keep an eye out on Craigslist \ eBay. They are becoming collectors. I know a guy in Colorado Springs who buys them as soon as he comes across one, I believe he has 5 now.

I also know of a guy here in Houston putting an EJ22 (STi) motor and 6 speed in one!

I remember checking out the Baja when it came out a few years ago. What a let down! Nowhere near as cool as the brat.

The reason the seats were back there was that there was an excise tax on import P/U trucks....seats in the back made it a sedan. This is prior to foreign manufacturers having assembly plants in the US.

Methinks the law on riding in back would not be enforced as they had seat belts.....

It would take an act of god to roll one of those. They had about 27.5 horsepower, and sat low to the ground.

Some guy on Carnuts.us posts them as finds on the Portland, Oregon Craig's list.

You should try some of the west coast Craig's listings.
