An incredible auto technology program--Amazing!!!
 

Remember the $1.7million Bugatti Veyron that ran into the Marsh in Texas? Well there is a program coming up on Mon 4/26 on the development of the Veyron.
The Bugatti Veyron is the brainchild of Ferdinand Piech, who is Ferdinand Porsche's grandson and the CEO of the VW supervisory committee.
Saw this hour long program about a month ago, and I was stunned!! The engineering and development effort behind this car is unbelievable. From the W16
1001hp motor, to the brakes that can haul it down from 235mph, to the amazing hydraulically actuated rear spoiler, this car is too cool!
I realize this is really not Pcar related (except for it's creator), but thought you high performance freaks might enjoy it.

The program is called Man Made and the episode is Bugatti Super Car

The National Geographic Bugatti show is alright but they focus alot on how it is a ressurection of a great French carmaker, not a VW project under the man that made the Audi Quattro and the 917 Porsche. They talk about the outright top speed and luxury, and how a "grandma" could drive it, not mentioning how overweight it is. I like the "Ultimate Factories: Porsche" featuring the 997GT3 gen2. The BMW one is also good.

I think the Bugatti is a pig. If you're going to use CF for a frame/body, the car better be light. You definitely don't need a W16 quad turbo to get that kind of power either... but that's another reason it's so overweight.

There have been two different shows on the Veyron. One was a half hour show that sounds very much like what you were refering to. It had very general info, and was kind of a test drive, meant for the "masses"The program I mentioned is a full hour, and goes into great detail on the engineering and development process. The detailed process on buidling the composite brake rotors and testing them in a test stand till they glow bright red, is incredible. Also the building and testing of the motor is equally cool. But the neatest thing is the hydraulic rear spoiler, which is driven by a computer, and reacts in milliseconds to different conditions. In fact, they can't stop the thing within a reasonable distance from 235mph without the spoiler's help. Without the spoiler, it would be unsafe to drive!!!
Then there is the high speed ultra high security test track in Germany where they test each one to it's limits. By the way, top speed is actually 255mph, but they put on a limiter at 235mph. Thank God! Check it out, it's cool!!
