I did see Adam Ferrara's stand up last year. He wasn't that bad but I don't know how he will be as a host. Either way, I don't think it will hold a candle to the original.

There was a test video of sorts with Adam going over a mid-70's RS replica. It became obvious that he knew very little about the car or the car it was inspired by- could have just been a bad subject for him but it sucked.

Adam Carolla actually has an RS replica, and I think a 914-6 as well. I didn't see the test shoot (yet) but that sounds a little surprising that he wouldn't be fairly familiar. Obviously he makes his living BS'ing and wisecracking about stuff he knows little to nothing about, however...
Top Gear America has been discussed several times on his CarCast podcast. Tanner Foust was a guest recently and spoke about it as well. I sure hope it happens and that they end-up with a good cast and material.

I just don't see a US version allowing for the insane challenges that the UK version does, i.e a shoddy 4x4 through Bolivia. Do you really foresee any US celebrity signing up for that, not to mention getting an endeavor like that insured in the US? Unfortunate.

It will fail. People will immediately compare it to the BBC version which has a relatively big budget, fantastic production values and can call a car a piece of crap when it's a piece of crap. Ours will turn into a much watered down infomercial for GM products and Hagerty insurance. I kind of hope it doesn't happen because it will cause a lot of embarassmant.

Yeah, but think of all the opportunities to make fun of the Brit's/Euro's, their speed cameras, high fuel taxes/prices and bad teeth.
Seriously, I can totally see a show like that getting traction here.

But no body really cares about making fun of the Brits. If it was the French, perhaps...

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.....without these guys, an American version would just suck so bad.
When all you can see is Nascar, Pinks, PassTime, West Coast Customs, Unique Autosports on TV these days. No F1....no FIA WRC. You pretty much know where the majority of American car interest is. Don't think an American version of Top Gear would survive. Love Top Gear BBC. Happy I can get it on cable.
