Any new diesels for 2011?

I know about MB, BMW and VW and their diesels. I wonder if anyone here, particularly those Pelicans in the auto industry, would know if other manufacturers plan to sell diesel commuters to U.S. buyers in 2011 (or 2012, 13, etc).

Thx.

I was driving this around Canada last week: Toyota Diesel - don't know if will hit the states but it should. Imported from Japan - check out the powerplant.

Real question is: when will it be easier to convert gas vehicle to diesel (registration-wise). I would have a cummins 4BT in everything I own!

Ford is supposed to have a diesel for their F-150 in 2011- wish they had stayed on their original timeline, and I would have bought one this year.

I'm more interested in diesel cars, wagons or SUV/Crossovers.

American manufacturers have nothing. Or if they do, like Cadillac, they ship it to Europe.

I guess Americans just don't "get" diesel as anything other than a work truck, according to the big three.

BMW, M-B, VW = my money if I still want to go diesel in the near future.

I don't know if Americans don't get it, the manufacturers think we don't get it, or if it's a "big oil" conspiracy, but what's there not to like about a fuel efficient, long lasting, and nice performing power plant. Given a real look at a descent (and fairly priced) example, I think Americans would embrace the diesel.

VW cannot keep the new TDI sport wagon on dealer lots for even hours.

Considering how CAT and Cummins are American and have the best diesel technology I am surprised they dont develop and supply small car engines.

In my neighborhood, Mercedes and Audi have been driving their respective cars around with "BlueTec" and "TDI" advertisements on the doors and hood.

Does anyone wonder why a diesel ML 350 or Audi diesel crossover can hardly be found anywhere at the local dealerships?

Inform the public. The TDI "driving" ads was something Audi dreamed up two years ago.

GM, Ford, and Chrysler have all put serious development into US Spec diesels. Unfortunately, falling gas prices, diesel priced 30 cents higher than gasoline, tightened US emissions, and the collapse of the auto industry all put small diesels on the back burner for a while. It takes an insane amount of money to develop..... money that US automakers simply doesn't have, or should use in better ways.

As dd pointed out, Ford and GM have several good existing diesel options across the pond, but they have decided to leave them there (for now). Generally, europeans 'get' diesel if for no other reason than taxation.

IMHO, turbocharged direct injection gasoline technologies are where they should focus, and they are. Check out the 2011 Hyundai Sonata GDI Turbo..... honestly capable of 40+ mpg (EPA est 34mpg freeway cycle), 274hp, regular 87 octane gasoline. Why pay more for a diesel, then pay more for diesel fuel? The Hyundai will flat smoke a VW TDI (pun convenient).
