Tomorrow I get to pull the motor and trans to replace the engine compartment insulation pad.

Wow, that sucks. If that thing got driven every day....

In those old Tom & Jerry cartoons, I always rooted for the cat! Now you know why...

Steve, Funny you mention that. Apparently this is the second time this has happened. The car only has about 6000 miles on it. Its a great car. If it were mine...it would be driven daily. :)

Damn ratbastards!

They need someone to come start and drive it a few miles daily..... I'll take one for the team and do it....

Making good progress. Power plant is out and insultation pad is in. Will be re-installing in a little bit.
The above link in the first post has updated pictures as I go.

I saw lot of pics of wires. Did the thing chew on those as well?

This pic is the one that seems really ugly to me. I think all of the bare wire ends are wires that were chewed through.

Besides driving the car, is there anything that can be done to keep them away/out? Moth balls? Ceder?

Said Rodent had a party chewing on the oxygen sensor harnesses. There was also damage to the engine compartment insulation pad. The motor had to come out to replace that. Plus it was a good idea to see what else may have been chewed up behind. No other damage there but there was a good sized nest on top of cylinders #2 and #3. Lots of acorns, insulation, and rat turds.
Not much else to do to finish it. Need to put the rear bumper and skin on. Also have to put the seats back in, scan the systems, and road test.

I think the biggest thing for the owner of this car to do would be to garage it and drive it more often.

That guy should get one of those Carcoon car bag thingies. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper than redoing the car every few years. Ziploc keeps the freshness in.

RD!!!

Sorry, thats what we say in our shop when we diagnose some weird electrical problem on a car.

RD!!! - Rat Damage

One bit of (somewhat obvious) advise- once a rodent makes a home in a car, the smell of the nest keeps them coming back for generations. Lots of traps/bait in the garage area to try and keep them from returning.

Sorry for the mess, and G/L!
