cggar...glad your son got down and settled in. How long is he stationed down here? Keep my contact info...if he needs to get away for a weekend, he's welcome up in Jackson. Just give us a call. Ditto for you/your family if you come down to visit.

Will do Jim: He will pretty much be there for the next 4 years (home base) and his unit is still out til May then it looks like he may be deployed sometime after Christmas.

I worked with the Marines for a while while on hold for a Navy school. It was here I had my fill of MREs, although I will probably always like the little pound-cakes.

I guess it depends on your definition of "Good". Personally, I see what else there is to eat first, they'll never be my first choice...probably because I have PTSD from the early MREs. They are "better" now.
Whenever possible, they try to mix MREs in with T-Rats. Quote:

in 68 we got some freeze dried meals from LRRPs . really good. by that i mean lotta spice. don't remember if smokes were included.
