I like katsup

Buckterrier 04-28-2010 11:41 AM

I actually know what thixotropic means ;)

But my favorite...

altho opposites attract, we ain't gonna shear that way on this sailing cruise

RWebb 04-28-2010 03:44 PM

ok, masraum, here's one fer ya:

what would the conditions have to be like for a space voyager to see those finger like protrusions on the surface of a planet he was orbiting???

Zeke 04-28-2010 05:02 PM

Thixotropic refers to compounds in liquid form.

Pseudoplastic refers to many P-car owners.

Oh. I thought it referred to Pamela Anderson. Thanks.

Well, her too.

unclebilly 04-28-2010 05:51 PM

It depends on alot of things... if it is a Borate based system or a Guar. If you lower the pH, it will got from pseudoplastic to thixotropic...

BlueSkyJaunte 04-28-2010 05:54 PM

Spooge, too.

I have absolutely no clue. I suspect you'd want molten lava on the surface, but I'm not sure what would cause the lava to form the protrusions.

Hugh R 04-28-2010 07:55 PM

Uh, is this a public poll?

RWebb 04-29-2010 02:44 PM

it's the default, whatever that is...

yup - you might want lava and also some force on it (like in your vids)

but, if you had the right fluid properties, and the right force... maybe you could do it with something on a planet far from its star - say witht he fluid being liquid methane

I suppose that someone, somewhere has cooked up a non-dimensional group for this...

Normy 04-29-2010 03:27 PM

Hmm.

Interesting subject, I learned something about chemistry tonight. My question: What is your point?

N!

RWebb 04-29-2010 03:42 PM

none, same as always

or maybe it is an obtuse comment on some of the more moronic polls people post...

I see your angle, and it's not complementary. I'd say it's an acutely obtuse comment - which makes it difficult to see the point.

I have a good friend who deals with similar angles - but he's too incongruous to take seriously. We don't communicate much (he lives in a parallel universe).

masraum 04-29-2010 05:15 PM

Anyone ever read Flatland?

RWebb 04-29-2010 09:55 PM

I tried to read it, but could only see the edge of the binding.
