My aunt lectured me about the fact that I occasionally post pictures of spoons and my uses of them on FB. She asked me what a future employer might think of that. I told her that if someone had a problem with my owning guns, I probably didn't want to work for them.... My privacy settings are on full lock. I'm surprisingly a pretty shy, private person.

The other problem is people tend to over communicate, they'll pump out several posts in a row. Do to the linear nature of the feeds it's like putting all you eggs in one basket. |
Rick, that's pretty boss dependent. Obviously your boss isn't a woman. :D
|
So a quick question and a post:
How do I change the LinkedIn link below in my signature to look better/simpler? Something that just says, "Join me on LinkedIn" or something like that? I just requested to join the PPOT group! |
People used to communicate with other people of common interest in private offices, on the street, in smokey bars, noisy parties, in their homes, and on an analog telephoney device.
Now, their every daily word remains stored on internet servers accessable to those with the rights and/or means. |

But, I can guarantee that my cat's untimely death this morning will be on my wife's FB page as soon as she pulls herself together. It's how they roll, I guess. She comes from a BIG family, I'm an only child with no living close relatives. |
I get Money magazine and like it. As a finance guy, I know that one doesnt need daily updates, monthly is fine. They give sound conservative advice. And they are right about FB and Linked In. I resisted joining also and finally saw that both are here to stay. I use linked in for mostly work stuff and fb for personal. Used in the correct manner both are great.
By the way, keep in mind that Pelican Parts message boards are pretty much like fb but to a more targeted audience. I'm sure it's part of waynes business plan. Don't forget most things in life come down to $ in one way or another! |
I hate FB but LinkedIn helped me find my job!

Facebook is a joke, you may as well post your SIN, VISA, and all your PIN's there, anyone who thinks they can "lock" their information is drinking the hooch at farmville.
No more secrets......... |
There was a thread on here a while back on the "religion and politics" section where someone linked me to a Facebook page.
Problem: It was the wrong one! Heh heh! -The person in the page- I wanted to warn him, but I couldn't figure out who it was. All that was posted on the Pelican was a picture, which was of course intended as a "warning". Nice. Well, that's what goes on when you are dealing with right wing conservative republicans. They lose an argument [quickly], and then they resort to attacking the messenger. That's stupid. In this case, they resorted to what was probably illegal activities. Hello? That's the real problem with Facebook and other places now isn't it? You really don't know who is who, and you can make a mistake and wind up sued. Sued for defamation, and wind up giving up your house to settle a civil suit! Facebook and other places are like guns- you HAVE to be careful! In the correct hands, they are good things. In the hands of drunks or people with no common sense, these sites rapidly become dangerous. N! |
Thanks Mark.

How is FB raising money exactly? There is no membership fee structure - is it all just targeted advertising? I know the guys on Motley Fool (who I tend to mirror somewhat) are very much down on FB's baseline stats. Cool concept, popular, etc. but just no viable way to make money long term. Yeah a lot of people are saying "oh they must be worth a lot" which is pumping up the perceived value through self-fulfilling prophecy effects, but the reality is at the end of the day they have a product that is popular, desirable and widely-used, with absolutely no way to raise money from it. Once the speculators and dreamers are pushed aside by stodgy old conservative investment types who understand this, I think it'll be curtains for FB's financial future. Zuckerman would be wise to cash out now, IMHO.

Jim - sent you a PM - you've left off the [ at the start and the ] at the end

Since starting this thread, I've updated my LI profile and have gotten connected to many more people. I used to get three to four calls or emails from headhunters a year. This year, I've received at least six and two requests for a phone interview. LI works if you use it right. Keep it professional, unlike FB. |
I'm not on Fakebook, deleted my useless (for me) LI account ages ago.
I can not understand at all why people feel the need to put their life on the net. I have enough friends and I keep'em closeby, don't need some azzhole from the past in my life. (You were a dick then, and guess what, you're still a dick, Fuch off) Also whenever I go to a party, or whatever, I have to turn away from camera's to avoid getting my picture posted on someone's Fakebook account... I really really really don't want to appear on your FB page, CAN YOU GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL??? When people ask me if I'm on FB, I say yes, look me up... There at least four other guys with my name on there. I don't want to go through the hassle of explaining every time why I refuse to join. People look at me like I'm from another planet when they hear I'm not a member... |
