"new" daily driver

Here's my Maaaaazda Protege 5. It's not perfect but it runs and drives great. It lived most of it's life in northern Michigan so it has some surface rust in the typical areas.

BTW-the Mazda forums are NOT even close to our beloved Pelican but they do have some dedicated enthusiasts.

I'm surprised you elected to get it in "Pull me over" red.

Here's my old daily driver turned new daily driver....

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../GoldBBS-1.jpg

I just spent all day hanging parts (new powdercoated 16x8 phonedials and a brand spanking new front airdam!), changing (very expensive) fluids and checking stuff out to get it ready, and will be doing the same all weekend next weekend. It's back to DD status for my old 928 again.

I sold the Saturn. I'm sick of paying insurance for 2 cars.

Good luck with your Mazda!

Red wouldn't be my first choice in a vehicle but this deal was good so I thought I would try it.

The 928 is looking great, Snipe!!

The P5s are excellent cars. The Mazda forums however, not so good. You'll certainly find enough info and how-to's, but you'll have to dig through the crap.

Good cars I miss mine from time to time. Be sure to change the plugs regularly, the service interval on them is ridiculously short and the car will start to run rough if they are neglected. Luckily changing them takes about 10 minutes.

I'm seeing that in the 48 hours or so I've been a member.

On my "new guy" first post. One member welcomed me with this response "Welcome and Sh$%".

wow.

Luckily, parts seem pretty reasonable compared to the ol' 911.

Zoom Zoom! Has it got a stick?

My mom always wanted a P5....

Dad wants to know if they come with a HG folded up in the owners manual... He owned several Mazda pickups.... They all ate HGs...

Oh Haha 05-02-2010 03:52 PM

Hey Sid,

Yep, it's a 5 speed manual. I'm expecting to get upwards of 28-20 MPG on average.

I didn't like the stock shifter knob so I went junkyarding Friday afternoon and found one I like better.
It's from a Geo Metro with the pattern embossed.(The one in the 911 is from a Ford Probe :))

I give up--what is an HG and should I be looking for it?

porsche4life 05-02-2010 03:55 PM

HG.... Head Gasket....

Oh Haha 05-02-2010 03:58 PM

Well, that's embarrassing.:(

Hey, my 6YO thinks I'm conversing with "Sid" from ICE AGE.:D

He asked me who I was writing to and I told him a guy named 'Sid".:D

Hi Wayne, My girlfriend has that identical car in yellow-it's been super reliable and she's knocking on 200K. She hasn't exactly treated it nicely either...

Get used to changing headlight bulbs and rear-calipers.

We have had one for seven years and almost 2000000 kms. Great car, fun to drive, versatile, and it has never left us stranded. But, we've done three rear calipers so far, and headlight bulbs are a yearly replacement item.

Not to sound like a Mazda commercial but this car fun to drive.

My service manual should be here this week so I can start digging a little deeper into some of the small issues.
