New sniper record

News | Mail Online ... -kill.html

Brings to mind the old tale of the sniper being asked what he felt when he shot a terrorist: "recoil".

That's almost as good as Quigley Down Under!!

Wow, I can't even imagine.

GH85Carrera 05-03-2010 07:15 AM

That is amazing. You can't say it was luck when he did it twice.

lane912 05-03-2010 07:27 AM

+1

Pretty cool, but I was expecting something on the number of babes Sniper nailed this weekend!

You really have to wrap your mind around how far 1 plus miles really is.

I can hit anything from a 100 yards. There are 1760 yards in a mile.

An amazing story. TOF at that range is approx. 3 seconds.

Someone should mount that guy to the wing of an F-16....

I bet those 3 seconds feel like an eternity when you are the guy behind the trigger....

Gogar 05-03-2010 08:34 AM

I thought it was going to be a link to Sniper's new CD on iTunes.

m21sniper 05-03-2010 09:31 AM

Shhhh, that hasn't been announced yet, there are still some machinations at play before the deal is finalized and announced. ;)

If, at that range, if you fire a perfect shot and your target begins to law crawl at the same moment, he can easily crawl out of the way before the bullet strikes. That's an insanely long TOF for things to go wrong.

It takes absolutely insane skill to shoot a man sized target at those ranges, even at half those ranges. Kudos to the guy, he is an instant legend.

dtxscott 05-03-2010 10:56 AM

Damn.... And I thought my 600 yd torso-target hits this weekend were special..... Guess I need to practice :)

Does anyone else think of Sniper like the Neil Patrick Harris character on "How I Met Your Mother"?

No, that guy is cool. SmileWavy

8.59mm that's 34 caliber. Compare that to our venerable .50 cal.

Pretty amazing.

I wonder if he was shooting .338 Lapua? That's the new "hot" rifle cartridge.

Mericet 05-03-2010 12:39 PM

Link to the rifle used: L115A3 Long Range Rifle - British Army Website

And it is in fact .338 Lapua

I'm good with that. He's the only one on that show that doesn't make me want to smash my TV to pieces. I despise every other character on that show.

Pretty amazing.

The .338 Lapua cartridge actually has superior ballistics to US .50BMG ball ammunition IIRC.

PS: Was actually a babe free weekend for me this past weekend. I spent most of it under my 928 getting dirty.
