As fast, or faster, than a Carrera GT

EarlyPorsche 05-03-2010 06:22 PM

Oh my gosh.

Just to think last week I had a post how I wanted Porsche to make a 6.2litre flat 8 engine. Well I still do! But this is nice.

HHI944 05-03-2010 06:34 PM

Jeebus! That looks like a good way to lose your license! But it'd probably be worth it.

Wonder how much $$$

Quoted at 240,000 euros

Still cheaper than a CGT

UconnTim97 05-03-2010 06:55 PM

Does that come in an automatic transmission?

It doesn't need to be new on the outside to make it faster.

It's what's underneath that counts.

It's called refinement.

m21sniper 05-03-2010 07:06 PM

I call it boring, but to each their own.

I'd rather see a new CGT than yet another re-hashed, tired old 911 shaped vehicle. Porsche SO needs to let that ancient shape go.

porsche4life 05-03-2010 07:13 PM

Just b/c you say so?

Sorry... Its still an ICON to most of the motoring world. It still looks good. Has a clean and modern look about it.

This one happens to have 620 ponies... Read that again 620! Thats Hypercar performance at supercar money....

gprsh924 05-03-2010 07:14 PM

Most of society disagrees with you on that one.

It's the most iconic shape in automotive history and I can't wait to own one.

Many, many, many iconic shapes have been gracefully retired by bold car companies many times in the past.

The 911 needs to join their ranks.

Is it "the most iconic" (i disagree, btw) simply because Porsche has been the least bold manufacturer and was afraid to abandon their cash cow for a new design?

I would say that yes, that is the case.

You take a 60's stingray vette, and that is every bit as iconic as the 911 shape, but GM had the guts to let the shape go and thank god, otherwise we'd have never had the beautiful mako sharks or the newer bodystyles that followed.

Same for the mustang, Camaro, Trans Am, or any of a gillion other iconic car designs throughout time.

Then again, if your new design looks like the Panamera, i guess there's a lot to be said for being afraid to move on from an old and proven design.

Yes, but none have been as successful as the 911. Why is that. Because it just gets better and better with each incarnation. If you want something different from Porsche, buy another model. There are several to choose from. Having been privileged to have a ride in a 997 GT3 recently I can testify that there is not much that can beat it for overall performance and 'livability'.

Anyway, back to the point...

This thing is going to be amazing!!!

Snipe,

some iconic shapes do not need retire, as long as they keep their appeal.

The coke bottle, practically unchanged for the last century....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272949272.jpg

And while the shape of the 911 may not appeal to you, it does to many many others.
And to be honest, and with all due respect, we all know you don't like it, and we all know you'll be venting your opinion every time a new 911 enters the showrooms.
It has the same effect (yawn) on us as "the 928 is not a real Porsche because it has the engine in the front" must have on you.
Oh wait, the 928, that thing is watercooled, not? Unlike a REAL Porsche.....

(see what I mean?)

Still friends? ;)

If I bought one, I'd have to go to Portland to have it serviced. Not even that car would be worth it...

porsche4life 05-03-2010 10:42 PM

Paul, Its all a matter of priorities... It would seem yours are out of whack my friend.... ;)

yes, i can see how that would a problem. Luckily though, the last GT2 has service interval of 10000 miles- so maybe once a year or so you could just pop it on a flatbed and send it in.

That might be a solution.

Sid, drive around Portland a bit...you'll then know what I mean.

porsche4life 05-04-2010 12:03 AM

But my local dealer isn't in Portland.... ;)

Its still a good little drive tho....
