Should of gone T2i souk...

Nice array of cars! While the uploads aren't great, I'm sure the files are.

Have you tried fooling with the depth of field and other features?

Some close ups of those RUF's would have been a cool shot (for me ;)).

I wanted an articulating LCD and have been waiting for a reasonably priced one to come from anyone...this Nikon was the first one that caught my attention. The feature rich Nikon was cream on top.

Milt - that files are huge! You are correct, the uploads lose a lot of detail. I haven't played around with changing depth of field or any of the presettings, but here's a different crop of the same file as above..

...the Ruf is actually my "Fat Bastard" with the "Souk special" front CTR bumper and real Ruf wheels.

Forgot the pic..

(even this is cropped in)

That's what I'm talkin' about! Our cars would look great sitting next to each other. Both black SF coupes with tinted windows.

Great that you could pull in that tight and still have detail. Those big files come in handy, eh?

MotoSook 05-08-2010 10:07 AM

Yep, the big files will come in very handy. Off to a kids soccer game in 1/2 and hour and will be taking action shots and generally playing with the camera. Will post results.

I do like the cleaner lines of the front bumper caps :). The pictures make my Carrera look better than it does in person LOL!

Milt, How do you like the 5d?

Souk, are you shooting in RAW? When I shoot in very large file size on my cannon it's usually a 2mb file. When shooting in RAW it increases to 10mb.

Massive increase in detail.

I don't think he's in raw yet.

The 5D is a great camera, but I have little to compare it to AFA background. We have gone from SLR film to point and shoot and now to a DSRL with fantastic features not yet exploited.

I'd say it will take year to be able to fully utilize the onboard capabilities. The 5D is the entry level professional's camera. The 7D is a big step up with video capabilities and more of everything else on the processor front. We are as far a we need to be with the 5D. For video, we have a disc DVR that'll shoot a couple hours.

I'd recommend you check and see if you can shoot and record in both RAW and jpeg. A friend of mine recommended I do it with my D80 when I got mine. You may not work with RAW for a while, but once you do you'll be able to go back and play with all the shots you've taken. It's only hard drive space when it comes to storage and you can always clear them to a CD if it gets tight. I've never run out of card space yet and I shoot and record both.
Just my $.02 worth.

I've had the d5000 for about 6 months. Same deal at Costco. The
only thing I would recommend is picking up a more powerful flash. Nikon makes a nice small one that integrates well. I do get tired of switching out the lenses and a all in one zoom would be nice if it didn't cost the same as the whole package.

MotoSook 05-08-2010 06:49 PM

I'm not shooting in "Raw" yet, but with the size set to "large" and "Fine" each file is up to 7MB. Editing the files on my old desktop is a challenge for the old box. My wife's new laptop does a better job....

Here are some action pics I took at the soccer game using the burst mode (55-200 lense). It's fast  I think when I'm using the camera, I'll just leave it in that mode as I can still fire off single shots with a quick release.

I did play with the aperture and shutter speed priority setting a bit and it's nice with the thumb dial. The last time I took pictures seriously was over 15 yrs ago  So it's going to be a while before my creative pics are worthy of anything...
