Classic American Cars of Cuba

Looks like it could be a fun show on old steel......

'A procession from Havana to the city of Trinidad celebrates Cuba's widespread nostalgia for vintage automobiles.'

PBS @8:00 TONIGHT EST, don't know about other local listings.

Hell, they haven't been able to buy any new USA cars since Castro took over. Nothing like some enforced "noistalgia", eh???

I've heard that too. It's probably a chicken coop now. :(

Sounds like a fun way to make money and Cuban woman are hot. ;)

I saw a documentary about Cuba and some guys were making a new rear panel for a Chevy.
They started off with a piece of flat steel and beat it by hand to form the panel.
Excellent work. It looked great... Those guys have skills.

This show was first shown in 2002. I looked for online versions, but found nothing except it was no longer available. I think I have seen portions of the show. Yes, the Cubans revere our old heavy chromed bumper cars. It's quite the status symbol.

I didn't know Cubans were supposed to have status.

That's true but it's human nature to want "Status" and no amount of politics will ever take that away.

I've seen the show, well worth the time..........

Nostalgia? Ha! They would scrap these old clunkers in a second. When Fidel croaks the ride of choice will be a Caddy Escapade within a month.

Apparently, most are re-motored with engines from Yugos or some such former Iron Curtain bastion of progressive engineering.

However, in a world re-paved and plowed over with Interstate interchanges, sub-developments and Wally-Marts - it will be nice to see some un-clogged roads old classics well cared for.

Thank you Robert.
