Little White Lies

I was wondering how many of you tell your wife, husband, or significant other (I just want to make sure I included everyone) how much money you truely spend on your Porsche(s). If I were to tell my wife how much I really spend on mine she would have a fit, kill me, then divorce me; well i'm not sure if she would do it in that exact order but I don't want to find out

Pay with a check for the parts and then write the local grocery store or other high volume place you shop in the check register. works most of the time.

I spend more on my wife's sewing machines so have no problem buying Porsche parts when needed.
She pays all the bills anyways so knows how much is going out. There's no hiding anything.

We have different accounts so no, she does not know. But every time she see's a new PP box she gives me the "again" look".

Take care.

I once read a great piece of advice: keep but never total up your receipts. This way I don't have to lie about how much I spend. When asked, I can honestly answer I don't know.

I think there should be another question in the poll.

If you don't tell your wife, etc how much you spend because they don't care.

I know that applies to my case.

I voted yes, but that will change in the next few weeks. Got the car, had the engine rebuilt before/during our dating period. The closer we get to marriage the less and less she'll know. Wont lie just wont tell her, and if she asks, I'll forget some work done or parts bought here and there.

Don't ask Don't tell!

As long as I sell something to buy what I want, the wife doesn't mind (too much!)

Add another option - that whole thing about how it's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission...

+2 When the boxes show up on the doorstep she just says "You have another box from Pelican" and doesn't even ask how much it cost!

That's how it is now. I hope it stays that way.... She opens my mail sometimes but not the car part boxes, should I be upset or happy? lol

Before she was my wife, she used to give me some grief now and then. But I explained to her that I had been buying and selling cars and parts for more than a decade with it being pretty rare that I ever spent out of pocket for something because I had built up so much "equity" in my stash.

Then we got married and she was ok with it for a while. That was until I got up to 8 vehicles, with only 2 of them running. And I had spent several thousands of dollars to get to that point. Then her sharp memory bit me in the arse. She basically told me that I was cut off. She reminded me how I had bragged that "The Ghetto Garage" was fully self supporting through it's own contributions (like AA). At which point I made her a promise. I promised that going forward all my project money would come out of what I already own.

That's why when I bought the '68 911t last fall I sold both my '76 912e and my '70 914. I needed to get out of both cars to get into the '68.

Now I'm looking at selling the Bumble Bee because I want to spend some real money on a spare engine and gearbox for the '68. 110bhp and 4 spds doesn't cut it for me. I need a 2.4l and 5spds, so I'm prepping a car for sale. I'm ok with it.

Wife doesn't want to know, so I don't tell. Porsches are dollar store items compared to kids ...

Burgermeister, " Porsches are dollar store items compared to kids" I second that brother,

I suppose I could test the strength of the marriage, but I'd prefer to stay married. So she hears about 1/3 of the expenditures and at about 1/3 of the actual cost. I look the other way when bags of clothes and shoes come in the door. Works for us, and it will be 30 years in June :>

PS, I hope to F@#% she never sees this.

Wavey, congratulations on the 30yrs bro. It is funny I tell my wife that exact figure (1/3) give or take a couple bucks, mostly take.
