Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees

Why is the wearing of a t shirt with a US flag an issue in AZ on CDM? Are things that polarized in AZ?

This will probably get PARF'ed but i would like to just get some non-political objective opinions to this before it does.

Sorry but I can't see this going anywhere but PARF.
According to the school it is insensitive of them to be patriotic to their own country. So if the Mexicans love their country so much, why don't they just go home?

Is there anything about this topic that isn't PARFy? PARF has got two threads running on it, already.

OK, here's a non-PARF question. Anyone know what proper flag etiquette is for the Mexican flag? For example: you're not supposed to use the American flag for decorative purposes, such as t-shirt designs, bandanas, 4th of July BBQ gear, etc. Does Mexico (because apparently this is a Mexican vs USA issue; forget the rest of Latin America) have similar flag etiquette rules?

How about the illegal alien etiquette?
USA Standard: Free healthcare, food, education....
Mexican Standard: Rot in jail.

Why should we care about the etiquette of Mexican flags, we aren't in Mexico, something so many people forget. We aren't in Mexico. It is the USA, you should be able to wear the same flag Mexicans burn in protests. Or is that Mexican flag etiquette?

The Mexicans should be allowed to celebrate their own holidays; I'm all for it. Dang 'merican kids were trying to ruin it for the rest of them.

But, American kids shouldn't be penalized into not be patriotic. That nasty little 1st Amendment is supposed to work both ways.

My family is comprised of immigrants from 20th Century. They came to these shores to become Americans. Not to change America into their home country. Like my friends tell me about the South when I talk about being from up North: Either get your heart in Dixie or get your A** out.

I would figure that in a melting pot, the stew should all come out the same flavor...

It was never a holiday in Mexico, did that change. They never used to know why we were drinking beer there on Cinco de Mayo. We, Americans made it a day to drink, just like St. Patricks day.

I apologize; boredom has gotten the better of me and I was simply looking to agitate someone other than my dogs- and I really don't feel like going anywhere until the POR15 wears off of my face.

5 May was an astounding victory for the Mexicans, although it did not result in French withdrawal. I believe it was a turning point for the occupation, though, and was not expected- the 'cans were pretty much a motley band (although organized) and France had one of the best armies. I seem to recall a request for US troops occurred around the time but was denied due to the American Civil War. Wikipedia didn't mention it, so it must not have happened.

I have not spent much time in AZ, other than a week in Sedona, is the population there that polarized to merit such behavior?

Duh, this happened in CA. WTF?

I think you mean the First Amendment. What has been violated is their freedom of speech. I am fairly sure they were not allowed to keep or bear arms as well, but that is beside the point.

Opps. All them numbers look alike. Changed it. Thanks.

I hope the students bring a lawsuit against the school.

It's stupid, its a non-USA and insignificant mexican holiday. Sort of like St. Patrick's day. An excuse to party. This is what will happen in the USA, the illegals will push the "Outrage button" to push their agenda and move us closer to no borders.

My favorite quote from the story because it shows that we are no longer a melting pot: "I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."

The school principal should be publicly caned. Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday, not a US holiday. People of Mexican heritage are free to celebrate CdM, but everyone else should be free to NOT participate in that celebration.
