Gunbroker, can I back out of a bid?

I am currently high bidder on what I thought was a Browning Citori shotgun with an extra barrel set but now realize it's only a set of barrels. I thought if I could snag it for $400 it would be a good deal but since it's just the barrels I think I'd be overpaying by at least $150.

The auction still has a few days so I should get outbid, at least I hope so.

Not sure what to do.

By far, the easiest thing to do is to not send payment, not contact the seller, and ignore his e-mails and PMs.

Fess up and tell the seller it was a clear misunderstanding as to what he was selling; you thought he was selling product "X" and, as it turns out he is selling "Y".

I think most would want to be treated the same in the seller's position.

Same thing happened to me, a little different scenario in that I won the item I mistakenly bid on. So, should you win, this is what I did.

It was an item posted by a large gun shop. I called, explained what happened. They said no worries but there is a fee associated with a completed auction to GB that they would have to pay.

I called GB, got the figure and sent a check to the Gun Shop for the fee.

They shouldn't have had to pay for my trigger finger.

You can retract your bid, but Perhaps you should contact the seller, apologize, and make some kind of peace offering; say. . .. . . buffet coupons

Or possibly work out a trade? Maybe he's short of AK ammo, should you have any laying around, for example.

Worst case scenario, complete the transaction, and try to flip them for a profit later. (But don't tell your mom.)
