Going to an auction that has this listed as 'Antique Shot Gun' tomorrow

Looks like a .22 pump to me. Fair price? Identification?

Pictures too small to be useful.

about 1/3 down on this page:
AuctionZip.com - Live Auction Locator - Fast,Easy, and Free!

There's a rifle there too that I'll probably pick up if it goes cheap. This auction has a reputation for roughing stuff up so most collectors stay away. (Note the 1877 medical text in great condition other than the label they placed directly on the binding)

Looks like a Stevens?

I tend to be a bottom feeder at the auction. I get some really neat crap for dirt cheap at the end when everybody has left.

Last time I was there, I paid $10 for a really nice valet. Swung by my tailors afterwards and he said it's worth about $400-500, handcrafted, Italian all that jazz. I've got a pair of jeans and Nat Nast on it right now for tomorrow....

Ain't no shotgun. I agree it looks like a stevens, could be a remington also as it looks like the #4 Rolling block frame.

HHI944 05-09-2010 09:02 AM

U, its a stevens. It's also now advertised as a bb gun and the action is comletely frozen.

tabs 05-09-2010 09:59 AM

It is a pump action 22, and I would have to make sure the painting was an oil and not a print.

targa911S 05-09-2010 10:07 AM

Buy it as a BB gun cheap. Take it home, remove the wood and throw it in some motor oil for a month. Use a piece of rain gutter, capped on both ends. It CAN be salvaged, I've brought many back from the dead like that. The barrle is prolly shot though, but you can sleeve it for $200.00 to make it a shooter.

A man after mine own heart. However one has to know what they are looking for and its value...as one may see an item and think, "My GOD that went sooooo espensiveeeee." Only to find out later that item went dirt cheap for what it is...

Back in the day I bought a Kindel Revolving Bookcase..part of their Wintereaur collection solid Mahogany...paid $880 for it... seem like a lot...last to the TRADE PRICE was $2500.00

Or a pair of Baovier & Toso mid century glass table lamps (Canero Del Oro) for $990.00....pairs like that sell for $9000 at Galleries in NYC...

Or a pair of Georgian Sterling Silver (1805) TALL dining table candle sticks (about 18 inches) for $1800...value about $5000...I shoulda steppd up and bought the other matching pair as a set of 4 would be worth 15K to 20K...but I didin't know that at the time.

Why waste your time...that gun is not worth screwing around with...your better putting your money in an excellent condition piece...and have better resale on the other end..

Junk is cheap and always will be cheap, good condition costs but in the long run it goes up in value nicely. So the extra money in getting a nice piece pays off...also one does not have to make excuses..when selling it.

targa911S 05-09-2010 10:41 AM

true.

HHI944 05-09-2010 11:43 AM

Passed on the stevens, called my gunsmith and he said he didn't want to work on it. It went for $65.
Picked up an oil on canvas and a watercolor by ken abendana spencer. Paid $75 for both. Anyone know much about the artist?

HHI944 05-09-2010 01:40 PM

I can't find anything by this guy for sale, just in museum collections.......

I'll try to get some up.
I picked up some Antonio Zatta maps of the poles for $5 each that are actual copper plate prints. They're worth $700ish each as far as I can tell....,.

I also picked up this chair. They were about to No Sale it and I figured WTH, it's only $50

It's ridiculously large.

I popped the backing off the southern hemisphere print and took a look, I'm almost positive that it's a copper plate print.........
