996 with Salvage title advice

When my son was 17 I bought a 1999 996 Cab that was hit in the front and came with a salvage title, since then the car has been reconstructed and driven approx 30000 miles with no real problems despite that fact that some things were not fixed such as the top Mechanism. We also replaced the stock 996 front end with a 997 fiberglass front from GT Racing. It was a great senior project for him but now it's time to go, Graduated college taking a job in London. My fear is that the car is worth nothing. I would like to get some honest opinions from the posters here as to the possible value of this car. I will post some pictures when I get home this evening.

Thanks in Advance

Generally, they are worth @ 20% less than normal, but with the top not working and the front end, figure on less than that, like maybe 30-40%.

Yeah he documented it for a senior project, it has a book that details all the work and I have all the receipts from the dealer for all the hard parts as well as the receipts for aftermarket front end.

Salvage title says it all. That is going to be tough to get rid of. Especially being a 1999. Even the nice 99s are not going for much.

Is the front lidnnot closed all the way or is that just a huge gap between the lid and the driver's side fender?

It probably not closed but it does have a gap that is wider than the one on my 993

It certainly is worth something. What's the mileage?

I see some nice seats in there
I also see the FG is beat up quite a bit aside from maybe not being the best install in terms of panel gaps and fit / finish.

Around here you can already get a 99 for 20k. So that means that this car likely will not fetch more than 15. Is that worth "nothing"? I would advertise it for 15k - unless it has over 100k miles, I am sure it will sell.

George

Have you confirmed that the title says salvage? I know a local guy who bought a salvaged 911 and after he registered it, the title was mailed to him and it said nothing about salvage. It was clean.
because it is old enough carfax doesn't come into play, so he scored.

I guess with a 996 it'd be pretty hard to hide, unless it was registered in Georgia

10-12k from what you've posted, maybe a little more to the right buyer. How many miles on the car/engine?

Have you thought about registering it in another state so that possibly the salvage bit goes away?

I agree - something looks odd. But that may not matter to the right buyer. At 10-15k, if the mileage isn't way too high, I think you'd have no trouble selling it. Especially if you've got the receipts showing the accident repair, and can convince a potential buyer that it's not a time bomb.

It certainly is interesting, but the gaps in that picture are pretty scary.

When it is sitting next to my wifes 997 you can see the the rear is much wider in the 997, also if you look good the rocker panels are not installed. The seats are Stock GT-3 seats and the wheels are 19 inch BBS 2 piece wheels. The car has approx. 74k on the odometer and it's the original engine that came with the car.

Sammy it defiantly has a salvage title, in Pa we have no choice they give you a registration that states the car was reconstructed. If it turns out that the car isn't really worth the time it would take to sell it I will end up giving it to my nephew.

Joeaksa I am not inclined or willing to change the title in any way, If I sell it the buyer should and will know the complete history of he car.

Hello Uncle MarKoBrow,

I think this car is worthless - I'll be happy to take it. You can even sell the GT3 seats for about $1500 and get some stockers in there - I don't care.

Your Nephew George
