C'mon, I'm bored with the current ones.

A930Rocket 05-11-2010 09:57 AM

Spill the beans. Was it another Sniper thread....?

Burnin' oil 05-11-2010 10:44 AM

I assume that whatever it was, it was potentially man-card revoking or, in your case, would have delayed return of your man card for another six months.

vash 05-11-2010 10:49 AM

ok...you guys asked: (thanks, burnin..my man card is missing. :))

Oakland police launch internal affairs inquiry into deer shooting - ContraCostaTimes.com

1. Should have used a tranquilizer gun.

2. Should not shoot handguns in an urban backyard.

3. The shooters need to get out on the range because they suck.

4. They should have called in Vash to arrow Bambi.

legion 05-11-2010 10:57 AM

Seriously?

A department around here wouldn't even bother reviewing such an action. Deer shot? So what.

Tishabet 05-11-2010 10:58 AM

Forget whether or not they should have shot the deer... once the shooting started, I count four shots before it is clear they even hit the deer, then a later fifth shot to get the deer down. They can't be more than 25 feet from this deer and are using police sidearms...where the heck do they train these guys to shoot!?!?!

Another thought: I hope they knew damned well what was behind that fence before they started shooting.

HelmetHead 05-11-2010 10:59 AM

WTF..?? Good thing it wasn't a spotted owl or something protected. Wonder why they didn't try to tazer the poor thing?

That is almost like some of the hunting trips guys around here talk about..."they open the cage..and the birds flew 20 feet and we unloaded"

Very sporting indeed!

TechnoViking 05-11-2010 11:04 AM

I'd be pissed if the cops popped of 6 rounds in my neighborhood over a stupid 100 pound deer. Yea, time to go the range boys. I think I could have taken that thing with 1 shot from a 22 LR.

Or how about ignore it? At least that's what we do around here.

legion 05-11-2010 11:11 AM

I will say that I can't see the video at work, but based on the write-up, I didn't see much of a story.

If they missed 4 times from 25 feet, they shouldn't be cops.

How was the deer standing? I was taught that the shoulder blade can deflect shots to the vitals, so a good shot must be waited for either head-on or quartering away.

Taz's Master 05-11-2010 12:18 PM

Why was tranquilizing or shooting even a consideration? Who calls the police when a deer walks through their backyard? What kind of police department responds to a call like that?

Truly that is an alien society.

Pazuzu 05-11-2010 12:45 PM

I have yet to meet a deer that couldn't get over any man made fence when you ran up to it.

"Police are allowed to shoot a deer or other wild animal if it is injured or is a danger to itself or other people. Some officers at the scene thought the deer was injured, police said."
After the first shot or two, it was probably scared, then after the 4th shot it was probably injured, so then it was finally time to kill it.

McLovin 05-11-2010 02:11 PM

I agree.
