To me, trying to pick a G.O.A.T. from any team sport is an exercise in futility--though it is always a great way to open barroom social gatherings which soon degenerate into shouts of, "Yo Mama" and "Sez you", followed quickly by a left cross. There are just too many variables in team sports to choose a G.O.A.T. without setting down clear criteria.

Golf, Boxing, Auto racing, however, are a bit easier. In these sports, the "Greatest" is working alone against single opponents or fixed standards (golf scores, for example). Given that, the only category on the list on which I have enough interest to make a call is boxing, and I'd have to agree with the others--Ali is the G.O.A.T., and will probably never be surpassed, given the condition of the sport today.

I'm with you milt on Andretti and Foyt.
Schumacher has done it, and very well I might add, in one discipline. Mario won in sports cars, stock cars, F1 cars, and Indy cars. Won the Indy 500, won the Daytona 500, won an FI championship, won a CART championship. Could go on and on. Micheal was decent but had the Andretti bad luck at Indy and unfortunately Marco seems to be a bit of a primadonna.
My vote goes to Mario.

9. Cycling = Armstrong

Racing -- hard to say -- Fangio, Senna, Donohue, Schumi.

I was Schumachers biggest fan, up until his last Monaco drive when he deliberately put the Ferrari into a wall to create an artificial red flag and preserve his pole position. Advantage, Fangio.

Hockey= Orr

Racing, without a doubt , Andretti. He mastered every discipline of auto racing. Not just road racing.

I'd replace Armstrong with Eddy Merckx for cycling.

A.J. Foyt was no slouch either. Indy 500 Daytona 500,and 24hrs. of Le Mans.

Jackie Stewart. He was one of the first drivers to be make a stand about track safety.

Previously mentioned. Plus, he had more USAC wins than anyone. Sorta like the Richard Petty record. So, when you look at his other exploits, he was up there.
