as the car gets fixed....
drives me nuts when i look at an ad for a car for sale, and the seller states "it's a real headturner....but as i fix the little things, the price is gonna go up."
(said in a hillbilly voice) really? you're selling a car, and then telling the buyer that the price is increasing with time? ...give me a break. ok, tomorrow's go-home leg, and i need to sleep in my own bed. ...probably shouldnt let this little stuff irritate me. /rant off

Speaking of which, I've always wanted to start a competition where you buy a car for under $500 and see who can trade up to the best ride while only spending $150 to fix each ride.
A guy I met recently claimed his dad traded an Escort for an early 911(T)? but it took him five years.

that sounds like a great compitition.
Mama would go nuts watching junkers going in and out of the driveway for a few years.

I bet the right person could work their way up the ladder pretty quickly and eventually make it to a ride most men merely dream about. I'd offer to start the competition but I've already put about $300 into the 914. Hmm. Maybe if the car was purchased for under a certain amount, you can put the difference back into the vehicle . . .
Man, I'm getting waaaay ahead of myself. And when the he11 did the dogs change the channel? We're now watching Talledega Nights on Peachtree TV and I swear JL Hewiitt was on a few minutes back.

Some of us have a better chance in a competition to see how much money you can pour into a car with increasing its resale value. Side skirts here we come.

I'd be in fir that comp!
Game on boys! Be warned that I was raised by a guy that flipped cars for a living. One of his buddies just bought a running geo for 50. Spent 300 on it and sold for 1600! |

I bought a fixer upper 944 for 3k and pretty quickly slammed it into the side of a truck (his fault) the wreck obliterated all the things that needed fixing and insurance paid me 7k in property damage. That was a pretty quick and painless upgrade.

...Bought a one-owner '65 Mercedes 190c for $1000 and a couple of flying lessons. sold it a couple of months later for 4K. In the same month that I sold the Mercedes, I bought a '73 911S....for an amount that will make you cry. I sold it 3 weeks later (wanted to give it a quick respray) for over 800% profit.
Now that I think about it, I've made money on every car I've ever owned.

In fact....just a couple of months ago, I mentioned my E30 got totalled on the way to work. I paid $400 for that car, and the girl's insurance company paid me $2400 for it, plus let me keep it. I'm still driving it for my airport car.
