What does the "P" in PARF stand for?

And why are so many people posting political threads in OT? :p

dhoward 05-13-2010 09:26 AM

Puree

Guilty:D I think people post ideological/philosophical questions in PPOT in the hope a civil discourse can ensue without reducing it to politically oriented/polarized diatribes.

For example there have been some good threads on health care issues or gun control or law enforcememnt or immigration we face as a society as a whole that were not (immediately;)) reduced to labeling posters as ******* or neocons or whatever that goes on over in PARF.

Besides there are only about 15 regular posters over there and it often just becomes a circle jerk espousing their particular brand of KoolAid be it either extreme. In PPOT there are usually 200+ viewers at any given time. I've learned a lot given sane dialogues.

Whatever they're taking, I want some.

I apologize... I should have figured a way to work the word "sniper" into the title of this thread

:D

I can appreciate a good debate... however so many threads as soon as there is a whiff of political content... the piling on and name calling begins.

Very tiresome and the very reason PARF was created.

I can think of at least one poster that likes to do this because he thinks he can present his highly-political ideas as fact and suppress dissent by "keeping politics out of it".

Many of us lobbied to have it called:

PAROT

Political And Religion Off Topic

THAT would have been very appropriate.

Superman 05-13-2010 10:53 AM

Indeed. Or perhaps Bureaucracy And Religion Forum.

looneybin 05-13-2010 11:11 AM

I think it was a typo
It should have been BARF

Z-man 05-13-2010 12:04 PM

Um - yeah....

Keep the political, religious, and controversial subject matter in PARF. Been moving a few threads over there, and will continue to do so.

The reason it is called PARF is because BARF was already taken...

Carry on,
-Z-man.

As it stands now, the P stands for Puke.

there are a few people who normally post in PARF and if they see some facts they don't like in OT, they will "PARF it up" -- apparently they attempt to force some threads into PARF

nostatic 05-13-2010 02:21 PM

P is for Poopyhead

There are some people who are apparently incapable of talking about an issue without making it a partisan political gibe contest. They usually just don't have much else to contribute.

Exactly. When you look at the viewer numbers, it is always between 20 - 40. They obviously get bored ranting to each other & so they dip down into OT for fresh meat. Pretty pitiful actually.

And there are some who post their veiled political rants here so they don't get smacked down in PARF.
