Why not his big hit..."Thunder Road"?

Heel n Toe 05-13-2010 10:57 PM

McQueen was cool. So cool he probably wouldn't do that.

Steering wheel's on the wrong side. :)

Hey, look at that reflection in the rear fender... it's an early 'Vette.

speeder 05-13-2010 11:08 PM

Mitchum really hated McQueen for some reason. He was a seasoned vet when Steve came along as a journeyman actor, the next big thing, etc... It's funny 'cause you never, (or rarely), see big-name actors bad-mouthing each other nowadays.

One of his typical comments was, "That kid sure doesn't bring much brains to the party..."

FWIW, I could not disagree more. Steve McQueen was a mininalist, and an existentialist but what he did and the way he did it simply cannot be matched. A lot of actors wish it could. He was more like a jazz musician or a painter than he was like most actors.

Mitchum was good at what he did but he could not touch McQueen, IMO.

Can you tell that I'm a fan? :)

Bonus points if you know where that pic was taken, Paul.

It's on a studio backlot. Which one?

If Chuck Norris and Steve McQueen are in the same room, you can't see Chuck Norris, since McQeen's coolness eclipses everything in the room.

That is all.

For some reason, the current crop (like Sean Penn and the like) just do not even come close...

Dueller 05-14-2010 09:38 AM

Couple weeks ago, someone took a pic from the exact same spot and posted it on a thread here in Pelican, can't find it.

But, no Jag, no Steve, no Corvette. Building is the same.

scottmandue 05-14-2010 11:28 AM

Oh sure steve is cool...

But did he ever bag a green chick?

Steve McQueen would never drive a Porsche or any car for that matter with pretty little flowers hanging from the rear view mirror.

Warner Brothers, it's almost directly under the water tower.

pwd72s 05-14-2010 03:53 PM

I'll go with Kevin...probably taken when McQueen was doing "Wanted Dead or Alive"?

Bingo. That was admittedly sort of an "inside the beltway" question but I love those old studio lots.

Robert Mitchum was a total badass if the stories i heard were true.

Dueller 07-08-2010 08:26 AM

Yeah...but could Robert Mitchum do this?

Jim, you really did not have to do that, but I really enjoyed watching it for the ten thousandth time...
