AR-Spoon Thread

What say we start a thread of "the people's" AR type rifles.

I'll start with my NRA Highpower competition service rifle.

I shoot a circa 1986 Colt AR "slabside" with:
•A free-floating 20" Krieger 1:7.7 twist SS barrel chambered in .223.
•A Milazzo-Krieger two-stage 4.5# trigger.
•1/4 minute rear sight with a .040 peep and +0.75 diopter insert.
•A .035 wide front sight post.
•Added buttstock weight to balance the rifle just forward of the magazine well.
•David Tubb Superior Systems extractor/ejector springs and flat-wire buffer spring.
•Total weight is 12#.

This is a sub-MOA shooter and has gained me the Master classification in NRA Highpower competition.



Now I have built a new AR. This time for the Match Rifle class of NRA Highpower competition.

It is a Les Baer Custom with:
•Fitted upper and lower receivers and an adjustable Jewell two-stage trigger set at 3#.
•A free-floating 26" Krieger 1:7.7 SS barrel chambered in .223 with fluting under the handguard.
•A White Oak Precision handguard tube with adjustable handstop.
•A David Tubb competition pistol grip.
•A Sierra Precision adjustable buttplate.
•And the piece de resistance, Centra front and rear sights.
•Total weight is again 12#, but does not need any buttstock weight to balance.

The front sight base is a David Tubb 22mm adjustable in elevation. It houses the Centra Glass Iris adjustable from 1.8 to 4.3mm diameter while maintaining a ring width of 1.6mm.

The rear sight base is the Centra Long Range AR-15 with 1/4 minute adjustments. It houses the Centra anti-glare tube and the 3.0 Filter Optic Iris which has an adjustable iris between 0.5 and 3.0mm, 5 color filters, a 1.5 magnifier, and a +/- 4.5 diopter adjustment.

This rifle is sweet but has not been shot yet. I just did finish building it. I suspect it will shoot 1/2 MOA, maybe better. Of course that will depend on the ammo and me.

I put my mid-length flat top together with all RockRiverArms components. Right now I simply a RRA detachable carry handle for sights. Someday when I get the urge to play with it again, I will probably add a rear flip-up iron sight, a match trigger and maybe an Aimpoint clone for when I get the red-dot urge.

Snipe, once again a beautiful gun. However, I feel that your bedspread (which deserves a picture on its own merits) and that you have used for a background for your pistol in another thread, detracts from the beauty of the gun.
I would post a pic of my old Garand M-1 if I could remember where I put it.

Maybe the Daewoo shouldn't count but it does use AR mags. Am still in negotiation for the one with the EOTech sight, owned the SP1 since the late '70's.
Have no doubt that abisel could shoot rings around me with his, I went more to the quantity approach.

Hehehe.

The Nano point is their top of the line model. It's a reflex heads up display sight. It costs about $120-130 bucks. The one i have is the PS-55, it was like $90.00. The PS-55 is the perfect height for an AR flat top rail.

Mine has been (deliberately) turned on to the best indoor setting (power level 2 of 7) for 3 weeks straight. So far the reticle is completely visible and seems unchanged in brightness. I plan to leave it on continuously until the day i decide it's too dim to be useful at that setting....just to see how long the battery will last if SHTF.

When i shot it at the range i was able to adjust point of aim to the exact center of the 5 MOA reticle at 25 meters with XM193 ammo. It shoots about 1/3" groups at that range with Federal XM193 ball. That ain't bad at all for a 16" carbine with NATO ammo. The match grade trigger really helps to shoot little groups.

If you can only afford one or the other get a trigger.

I have a Chip McCormick match grade drop in unit.

I loved my M-14, but there's no denying that an M-4 is a hell of a lot nicer to hump around all day.

I have a black Magpul PRS stock. Basically like new. I'll sell for $200+shipping.

I got some other small parts like an oval M4 forward handguard in green, a David Tubb adjustable buttplate that will fit AR-15 or bolt rifle stocks (might require trimming the bolt rifle stock a little). I got a bunch of GI M14 20-round magazines too.

Speaking of BB guns, here is an upper to attach to your existing lower.

That pellet upper is a cool concept but they're not even breaking 600 fps with it. I've seen pistols that do better, and my $120 break-action single shot rifle does 1000 fps.

I like that Matech BUIS...will have to check one out.
