Collinite Insulator Wax

I went to Autozone and one of the employees went on and on about this stuff. Went home and did some internet research about it and decided for $15 I would give in a try. Interesting stuff. I guess it was originally made for maintaining insulators in the electrical field. It suppose to last long so we will see. Did the red 911 and black BMW. Went on easy and comes off with a little bit of effort. Time will tell.

The Collinite products are excellent. We have been using the Collinite polishes and waxes on our boats for at least the past 25 years. The insulator wax was indeed made for the electrical industry. It was developed to reduce arching on electric wires. The insulator wax is also an excellent release agent for fiberglass molds.

Great stuff. Used it on my boats also.

Better than Zymol?

widgeon13 05-17-2010 03:15 AM

I've used it, think it's made in Utica, NY. Don't know if it's better than zymol but certainly less expensive. Very easy on and off.

drcoastline 05-17-2010 05:30 AM

Oh Haha,

I don't know if it is better then Zymol but I prefer it over Zymol. I have used both and prefer the Colliinite. Let me say this our boat is used in the Atlantic Ocean then sits at dock being hit by salt spray and sun all summer. In the winter months it sits mostly uncovered due to it's size. It sees far more abuse from the elements then any of my cars. Great stuff.

We generally put one coat on the boat in Spring, One mid summer and one at the end of the season.

Rejex and Collinite are the only thing I bother with on the boats. I think that collinite has the better shine.

Also for protecting metal and electrical - use corrosion X

CorrosionX

It's like magic (and both were developed for the space shuttle)

I use the Collinite #845 Insulator Wax and it's very durable. About 2x per year I put 1-2 coats of a synthetic sealant on and then the Collinite on top. It doesn't provide the best shine, but it lasts and protects paint very well.

I have read that their Super DoubleCoat Auto Wax #476 is even better, but I haven't used it (yet).

Collinite's claim to fame is durability. I use Zymol on my cars during spring and summer, and Collinite for late fall and winter - always happy with its staying power.

Do you boat guys have any tips for what to use on yellowed fiberglass to get it white again?

Collinite also makes a rubbing compound you could try with a buffer...

You could also try bleach.

slakjaw 05-21-2010 11:12 AM

I use their Fleetwax on my boat

To me, Zymol is way overrated.

I emailed Collinite a while back, and was told that the Fleetwax is the same as the 476s, just in a larger tin (and possibly a better value). You can use it on your car too! SmileWavy

+1

And over priced...

Edit: sorry for the double post, multi quote didn't work for some reason. That and I'm trying to get my post count up so I get smarter. (or was it "more intelligent"?)

+1 on the Starbrite hull cleaner but it wont take out the rust stains.
