It had like a bitter metallic taste to it. I'm thinking i didnt rinse the sanitizer good enough out of my fermenter.

Heineken is heinous.
Landshark is lousy.
I would like to champion a great American beer like Sam Adams, but I actually have truly hated every variety I've tried, sad.
The new Bud Select 55 is awful. Being a St. Louisan there are still many A-B faithful drinkers out there, but I'm yet to speak to ANYONE who thought 55 was good at all.

cashflyer 05-17-2010 10:32 AM

Beers I have tried but don't care for:

Guiness
Olympia (Slogan: "It's the Water")
Carling Black Label
Schaefer
Heileman's Old Style
Schlitz & Schlitz Malt Liquor
Tunisian brewed Lowenbrau
Milwaukee's Beast
Miller 64
Miller Chill

And I would happily drink any of the above before ever again consuming:
Samuel Adams Imperial Stout
Budweiser Chelada

Wiki says that Schlitz has been reformulated, back to it's pre-70's decline.
I wonder if it deserves another sampling?

Yeah, the seaweed extract they added to prolong shelf life killed the brand and the beer- turned it to sludge. I hear it's worth a try now that it's back.

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 05-17-2010 11:05 AM

college gal from chhitown liked Champlae....ewwwwwww!

gimme warsteiner dark, or negra modelo

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 05-17-2010 11:06 AM

champale that is.

Tishabet 05-17-2010 11:08 AM

Tecate.... BLEAH!

I drink a wide variety of beers and enjoy nearly all, but another that I just could not appreciate is smoke beer. Just was not an agreeable taste to me, which is funny because I smoke cigars, enjoy BBQ, drink lapsang souchong, etc.

JavaBrewer 05-17-2010 11:08 AM

The $8.50 Coors light at PETCO park. That was last year. Now that the Pads are basically a AAA team this year I hear the prices have dropped to $7.50 and $5 for draft.

Ba is 3 in Vietnamese, so Ba Moui Ba, and sometimes it was the only game in town. Once in awhile when we were around ROKs, Koreans we got something called Pearl, I think. It wasn't very good either.

Old English

The worst beer I ever drank was at a house party. I was drunk and went over to a hottie to talk junk. I set my beer can down on the table next to another and started doing my best. Before long I picked up the wrong beer and took a gulp only to find it was warm and full of cig butts. All I could do was walk away and spit out a butt.

I'm very unpicky when it comes to beers, I like 'em all! Some more than others, but I've rarely met a beer I won't happily drink, including all the cheap stuff (Coors, Bud, lights, etc.)

Except this one:

peppy 05-17-2010 12:27 PM

moosehead

Bull (I know it's malt liquor)

I would still like to get some Piton from St. Lucia. Maybe it was just so hot there, but I remember the beer being very refreshing.

Hugh R 05-17-2010 12:35 PM

Pabst, I bought a six pack once and actually threw away 5 of them, actually about 5-3/4 of them.

red-beard 05-17-2010 12:44 PM

When I lived in India, we had a choich of 3 beers:

London Pilsner (London pee)
Bombay Pilsner (Bombay pee)
And Hayward's 5000

Were were limited to 1 unit per week, which was 10 bottles of beer, in 1 liter bottles. Hayward 5000 had a higher alcohol content, so that was our normal choich. London pee and Bombay pee were both bad, but I think (it's been way too many years) the London pee was slightly better. I will tell you, 2 of those boys were plenty enough for you!

Usually, anytime someone showed up, we would get them to signup for a beer license and get more beer than our regular alotment. Later, I found we could signup for a different license and it allowed 6 units per month, or 60 liters of beer.

The Murree beer in Pakistan was awful, but I think the problem was that it wasn't stored properly. I had some in Lahore and it tasted much better.

One of my buddies claimed the beer in Egypt was terrible, I think it was a version of Stella. All of this was in the late 1980's. The guys that I knew who worked in China at that time said that beer/food/anything was scarse.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! That's up in my top 3 "most disgusting things ever." You usually only do it once in your life, though! :)

Hetmann 05-17-2010 12:58 PM

I hate fruit flavored beers. I had some kind of Sam Adams cranberry thing and couldn't even finish it.

nynor 05-17-2010 01:37 PM

worst beer i've ever had, hands down, is josef hofbauer, any style. this is some seriously nasty crap. it tastes like it was literally made from moldy wonderbread and stale hops were merely waved over the brew kettle. i had a hangover after two of them, immediately.

just read some of the reviews at the link below. comedy.

Josef Hoffbauer Light from Cold Spring Brewery - Ratebeer

i bet you use some sort of iodine product. my taste threshold for that is extremely low. i can always tell when someone uses an iodine product for any stage of their sanitation regimen.

The sudden love of Yuengling in my area confuses the heck out of me.
Stores get a premium price for it, and trendy bars have it on tap.

Yet it was just 10 years ago that it was one of the cheapest swills you could buy.
[cue flashback sequence] I was working a contract job in New Jersey. The owner of the shop would, every friday afternoon, fill the refrigerator with cheap beer as a reward for the crew. Finish work, get drunk. He was paying about $12 per case for the stuff in cans - less if he caught the sales. He always tried to catch the sales or else buy even cheaper swill. He was a kind-hearted, but cheap-assed old bastard.

Now around here I see it for $6 and $7 per 6-pack.

although on some Porters... I have to wonder, did a beer-brewer once take a swig of beer from a glass that someone had been using as an ash-tray, and think 'wow, this is great!' ?

+1 also on the fruit beers. Who thought THAT would be a good ...er, Fabulous idea?

the belgians, going back hundreds of years, among others. try some kriek, or three philosophers. also, mcewan bros. from england is very nice and made with real fruit. any fruit beer that is made with flavoring is crap, and most of them made in america are made with artificial flavoring.

sammyg2 05-17-2010 02:48 PM

Spaten Optimator has to be the most vile garbage I ever tasted, poored most of it out.
Guiness and Heiniken suck too IMO, as do all poser beers that taste like crap but people drink them to try to impress someone else.

I like beer. I like it because I like what it tastes like. I don't drink it for a poser image.
If it's bitter, it isn't good.
If you have to sip it slowly because taking a large gulp would make you hurl, it isn't a good beer.

gtc 05-17-2010 03:13 PM

Yesterday in Portland I had some Lucky Labrador Organic Golden Ale - quite possibly the worst smelling beer ever. Eight of us agreed that it smells like cat urine.
That said, their Superdog IPA is one of my favorite beers ever. Go figure.

GH85Carrera 05-17-2010 03:14 PM

Many years ago I had the worst possible beer. It was August, I had been working on my car in the in the garage two weeks before. I left half a can of Colt 45 sitting on the shelf. Two weeks later I was working on the car again. I had a fresh can but grabbed the wrong one. I got a mouth full of two week old beer, full of growing lumpy white & green bacteria. I spit it about 10 feet. I ran inside and gargled with some Tequila. I had the dry heaves for a few minutes. Finally I took a long pull on the Tequila, and wend back to working on my 914. I never did get sick from it. Now I drink my beer from bottles.

Cat Urine. How about...

Least favorite, the empty one beside me.
Most favorite, the cold one in the fridge.
Black Label is nasty stuff though. We called them Black Disablers back in the day.

"Brewed expressly for and with the personal approval of one of America's all-time great beer drinkers"

http://beernexus.com/images/Hopn-Gat...29098-1_1_.jpg
"In 1969, Pittsburgh Brewing Company signed an agreement with Dr. Robert Cade, inventor of Gatorade, to brew a lemon/lime malt beverage he had developed called Hop 'N Gator."

t6dpilot 05-18-2010 10:12 AM

Schlitz? Don't friggin' bother. Curiosity got the best of me the other day. Now I know why the brand failed. Foul, but not the worst I have tasted. Geez, you guys are bringing back memories:

OE 800
Little Kings
Mickey's BM
Old Style
Busch

Should I continue.....? Nah, there are lot's of baaaad beers out there. I'll stick with a nice IPA myself. Racer 5, Modus Hoperandai, and Lagunitas are striking my fancy right now.
