Shipping a bicycle to France?

Hey Pelican Braintrust,

I am trying to ship my wife's old Yeti mountain bike to a buyer in France. All the usual suspects (UPS, DHL, Fed EX etc) quote anywhere from $550-725! It is too large for USPS to handle. I could almost fly myself over and bring it as baggage for less. Has anyone recently shipped a bike to Europe on the cheap? TIA

John, I had the same issue shipping a large box of car parts from the UK to the USA. I eventually used UK shipping broker Transglobal Express who were significantly cheaper. Not sure if they can help with a shipment from US to France but you might want to look into a similar type shipping broker who does.

nice, are you having a bike shop break it down and put it in a box that they received a bike in?

Might be cheaper to ship in pieces?

2 boxes for wheels, 1 for frame, 1 for seat/bars.

I once flew to Australia for cheap by being responsible for a large piece of luggage. I was told it was cricket gear. I never saw the luggage, just signed for it. It was an established company that specialized in this concept, so I could be sure it wasn't Turkish hash hish. The shipping is way cheaper this way.

You should look into companies that sell cheap flights this way. They also need people like you with the luggage.
