I'd rather not do either.

Funny, though.

No bears where I hike... Thank God.

I will never forget the first time I saw a bear, when I wasn't in a car, in the wild, with no gun.

I was running the Kalamath river as a guide, we had stopped for the night.

I looked at a big brown bear on a rise just above our camp, sitting on his haunches.

Cue Buffet: I was God's Own Drunk.

I jumped into a good sized pool of water that then flowed down between some high rock sides and over a small waterfall. As I am coming over the waterfall I see a black bear and her cubs drinking about 60 feet in front of me. I stayed under the waterfall for what seems like an eternity until the bears decided to leave. You sure feel defenseless when all the guns are out of reach ..... this was the first time that I was ever concerned for my safety in the mountains.

Great sign that was posted ....I will have to remember to have the the others wear bells.

A guy once told me if a bear comes he is first going to put on his running shoes. I told him he won't out run the bear. He said he didn't need to out run the bear, just me.

sorry i don't like to wear bells- not a hippie either

Also note that, due to a recent study conducted by Bass Pro Shops, .45 caliber rounds should be considered largely ineffective against any bears bearing big ol' bottoms.

Bears are common in my hood. When I moved here I caught hell for putting the garbage out the night before. Gotta keep it in the garage till the morning of. The elementary school down the road teaches the kids what to do in case of a sighting.
