Sometimes it's not Customer Supports fault

Our website has the obligatory Contact Us section.

We have a drop down for the standard stuff, PR, Investor Relations, Bus Dev, Customer Support etc...

The last option is "Other" for something that may not fit in another category.

Other is forwarded to me so I can determine who in the company should address it.

Couple of times a week we get support mail to the Other category.

Today I got this.

Trying 2 register a game I just got 4 my kids.
So rather than telling us which game, what platform, what issue he is having etc... so my guys can respond with an answer they will now need to drag the info out of him which over email may take days to resolve.

Respond back to him. "I cannot decipher what your need is so please reply IN ENGLISH so that we may be of assistance."

Texting terms just irritate me to no end. Especially when written by adults.

I don't mind so much when you know it's being thumbed in on a mobile device, but typing that crap on a proper computer keyboard is disgracefully lazy.

Your response : "What?"

nynor 05-22-2010 09:46 AM

it isn't a question, its a statement. the answer: OK.

Yeah, people are idiots; there's no getting around that.

I have provided technical support in one manner or another professionally for 12 years. During some of that time it was for the general public (the worst), some time it's for supposedly highly technical folks, and sometimes for corp types who may or may not be technical. Any and all of them can be a pain. The worst are usually the ones that think they are technical. For those you'll ask them "Please click _____". You'll then hear 3 clicks, some typing and 2 more clicks.

The only proper response is:
"Have you really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?"

Britwrench 05-22-2010 06:24 PM

That was probably a good deal, especially if the customer didn't want the kids anymore.

I have no idea what you said but I'm using it.

Leaving a free form box for your customers seems to me like you overestimated your customers intelligence. :)

Actually no.

If they can't figure out that the option for Customer Support is actually for Customer Support then the "Other" option should prevent at least 1 in 5 from sending support email to my Investor Relations people.

I paraphrased a semi-infamous line that was posted in a forum last year (and on youtube) regarding the Wii video game "The Conduit"

The line may be appropriate for a video game customer support person to use for the lulz.

Besides, I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It's just common sense.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just ask, what game, what platform, and hit reply?

Yes but the problem is that they have money and buy the products that we need to sell!
