The Old Man still flying at 80!
 

He got done re-pitching one of our props and wanted to try it. I ran out to the airport to get some videos and the prop is great, it really helps with the climb and seems to unload the engine in cruise. He started flying in the early 40's and really likes the ole SE5a.

The man that started the company where I work is still a licensed pilot. He is 95 right now. He went to work at the CAA before it was the FAA. His FAA employee number is just 3 digits.

He took "early retirement" at age 92 and sold the company. The real reason he retired was that no insurance company will write an insurance policy for a pilot to fly and take pictures over the age or 89. When he was 89 he was still working all the time.

At 92, why did he need an insurance policy?

Not sure, but I think it was insurance for if he crashed to pay off claims. Outstanding, my MIL is 81 and I cringe that she still drives. Less to hit in the air I guess.

My dad sold his 172 a few years back, I guess he would have been about 75.
It wasn't his health that kept him from flying, his hearing was making him wonder if he was hearing instructions from the tower correctly.
Good on your dad for being able to keep flying.
It was interesting when he was selling the Cessna, I was running the flight and maintenance logs up to an aircraft broker when they had someone looking for a 172. When he first bought it, there were pages of flight logs before an inspection. When he turned 70 the pages between inspections grew fewer and fewer until there was three inspections on two pages.

That's great. Age is a funny thing, everyone does not age the same. At all. Many are sharp as a tack in their 80s and beyond, playing tennis and flying planes. Others are complaining about growing old in their 60s.

It really is.

I had the pleasure of knowing my grandfather(s) and my wife's grandfather, all sharp and active in their 90's.

My Dad is 80 and still rides his motorcycle on a very regular basis.

Was just with someone that Seahawk will remember (Sergei Sikorsky) yesterday. He is sharp as a tack and believe that he is in his late 80's. Am supposed to take him flying when he gets time and bet that he will have absolutely no problem what-so-ever flying.

Hope I am half as sharp as he is if I ever make it to being that age!

Great! I was the Chief Test Pilot at the Sikorsky Factory in the 90's.

I found this picture of Pops complete with the uniform which is mostly original, he is the short guy on the right! This was at last years Wright Patt Flyin.
