Appliance Help - Oven Quit

My previously reliable Amana stove has stopped working.

It is an electric stove, digital model (CARS636E), and when I turn the oven (or broiler) on I hear a relay click, the digital display indicates the oven temperature, but the element does not turn on. After about thirty seconds the display turns off and nothing else happens.

The burners work properly, so I have 220 volts. I have cycled power, and used the 'reset' button. No change.

Broil, baking, and cleaning, all have the same symptoms. 30 seconds and then it shuts off.

I am thinking maybe a control board failure?

They do that. There is an appliance forum that is good for this kind of thing. I saw 5-6 hits when I Goggled that.

Maybe the element itself has burnt out. Mine died this winter, not an amana, and not digital. But it was a real simple $25.00 fix . I could visibly see the area of the element where it had burnt out, and checking it with an ohmeter showed open. Good luck, hopefully it is not a control unit.

Applianceguru.com

Search is free, cost $5 to join for life and ask questions, fixed my old dishwasher for about $10.

I don't think it is the element. If not heating was the only symptom I would guess that might be the problem, but I also can't broil.

FWIW, a relay can click and still not be functioning correctly.

Agreed, I just offered that as an observation, not an indication anything was functioning. My best guess at this point is that the control board is working, but the relay is not.

Or the upper limit switch has opened...
