There isn't (and shouldn't) be a legitimate race team that would come within ten miles of an Arizona border. If at all, Ecclestone doesn't need any more controversy in his life.

This will work out fine. Track opens in Austin, and the US F1 team gets to race, both in 2012. I won't hold my breath for either of those things to happen.

Just what F1 needs, another Tilke designed bore-fest. I'm sick of Bernie and his buddies just doing it for the cash. He cares nothing about the sport (he might of used to back in the day) and just shops it around to those who will pay his astronomical fees.

Indy was a good location, but poor track. You had a more central location that was close to Canada, since I think there were more Canadians that went to those races. :P

Bernie just wants a monstrosity out in a place where the weather has a good chance of being warm and sunny. I think that's why he likes those Shieks. More money than they know what to do with and acres of open land...sand.

I think ultimately Bernie needs to decide if he wants a race in the U.S. or wants all government-subsidized races. Unlike the rest of the world, tracks in the U.S. are privately owned and not backed by the state. They actually need to turn a profit.

Bernie's model assumes a government will foot the bill for building a track and tickets can be sold at an operating loss.

So if it happens can I crash on your couch and ride your motorcycles?

I like the noise, I like the smell, I like racing, but I don't care for this. F1 is not a reward, it's a risk, and it's boring. If they open the track to Texans to use free of charge, then I'm for it. I love the idea of being able to pull out of the garage on a Wednesday morning, turning a few laps and heading back home in the matter of an hour. That won't happen.

I bet the state exercises eminent domain to get the property. That's what Rick Perry does for Texas. It's a bad idea.
