Would agree with Jeff. Not going to be hunting something like a turkey with a pellet gun.

Many cases you end up wounding it and then it runs off, and that helps no one.

i hear you guys. i pride myself on quick and humane. i have been calling the birds to me..to 10 feet! much too close for me to draw back a bow without being seen. (unless i'm in a ground blind)..a pumped up pellet gun at 10 feet would be perfect..no?

I have a Gamo break-barrel like this one. They're made in Spain. It has good power, good accuracy, and it was pretty inexpensive. We use it for varmint control and plinking. It will take out squirrels at 30 yds. For larger prey you'll need to step up to the .22 caliber version.

I know for a fact that an old Crossman 760 10 pump BB gun will drop a "cat sized" animal with a head shot at 10'. Unfortunately it did it's job so well that the "cat sized" animal still made a blood bath all over the wood deck (a mental note was made that from that point on, "cat sized" and other varmints will only be dealt with when they are out in the yard at which point they will be handled with a non-pneumatic firearm).

man those darts were a blast. i still have my 760. the different colored feathers were great on vermints to see where ya hit 'em.

I have a purty wood stocked Beeman. Unfortunately, it's loud enough that I can't do any backyard plinking around here without worrying about freaking-out the neighbors. Same with the Gamo CO2 pistol.

Noise is a problem with my Benjamin 342. It's part of what I like about the Marauder; it's apparently baffled so that it's super quiet.

Yes, pneumatic guns (pump up or pre-charged) are noticably louder than spring piston guns. Nowhere near a rimfire rifle, but they do make some noise. The noise goes up with the number of pumps (on the pump-up models), or power setting (on the pre-charged) of course, so keeping them at the low end of their power range will quiet them down enough for many of us who want to plink in the back yard or basement. The variable power is one of the things I really like about them.
