why no golfer's?

seems like car guys are not generally into golf. spoons? sure. never much talk of golf around here, you guys do it much? i never much got into golf and my car guy friends don't seem to do it much, if at all. most of my long time friends not into cars can't get enough of it. why not much cross over between these two sports/hobbies?

I used to golf.

It's been years, now.
Track is calling...

I was an avid (but not very good) golfer for many years until my back, right knee and both hips gave out. It doesn't interfere with my car hobby though. It just requires better planning. Before I make the effort to get down and under the car, I need to have assembled all the tools I think I'll need. Lying under the car(s) on a creeper is a snap. Getting out from under and getting up to get a forgotten part or tool, hurts.

Best,
Tom

I do both....golf and car stuff.
Wouldn't have it any other way.

Play 2-3 times a week, although you couldn't tell my handicap or scores.
I think I might be the next candidate for the Haney Project on the Golf Channel?

Usually play golf during the week (being retired helps that) and sometimes on weekends when there isn't an auto-x or track day.

Usually Porsche/SCCA events rule the schedule first with golf filling in all the empty spots.

I've played golf since I was around 10; was on the golf team in high school. I seldom play anymore because it takes too much of a commitment in time to keep my game where I am happy with it and I just don't make it a priority.

There are a lot of people that I know that are into cars and golf.

My wife and I used to play golf. We took a few lessons from a local golf pro, then supplemented that with a golf class at the local junior college. We really enjoyed it as we were seeing improvement in our game. Then came the baby. Bye bye golf, bye bye BAP (Bay Area Pelicans). Got diapers and spit up coming out of my ears.

I play golf, use spoons, fly planes, drive fast cars and screw.

I don't drink anymore though so I must be bad!

Watching Caddyshack is about as close to the game as I get these days. I stopped playing after my friends started refusing night rounds and began paying greens fees. After that it just got boring. Plus, I haven't heard of any local courses with beer carts.

Carl: Oh! We can do that; we don't even have to have a reason. All right, let's do the same thing, but with gophers.

Too much time commitment. I use to play at least 2x a week before kids and work got to be more imporant. Now I do it on weekend getaways with the fellas or some special event for work or charity. I love golf, cars, motorcycles, guns, planes, boats, camping, hiking, climbing....but like a lot of guys, the days are too short to fit it all in and we go through periods when one activity rises to the top.

It's just a good skill "to know." ...Especially for business/career. I've been playing since I was 8....played varsity all through high school, and then kept playing for fun throughout college and even today.

So you think I should play golf to kiss ass? Uhh no...

Sorry but if it takes a golf game to get someones business I don't want it.

But you would probably take them bowlling.

I like golf, I like to play and watch. Once I took a few lessons it got a lot better. Not good, but better for me.

It really not about kissing ass. It's about using a tool to achieve a goal. If it was taking a client to the race track instead, would you say kiss ass?

Perfectly stated.

I stopped playing golf years ago but since I have started a second career as a business owner, I have taken the sport back up, almost solely for business reasons.

Golf is a great way to get to know someone, the good and the bad..we have actually decided to not bring on a sub vendor for a project after, at his request, playing golf with him.

Like Soukus said, golf is a tool, often a very accurate measuring device of a persons character.

Golf is a great game...

I love it...

Good exercise... walking, fresh air, screaming and cursing (good for the lungs)

I tried to learn the game to bond with my dad (he plays every week)

But I suck bad so I lost interest.

Yes it is a big time commitment, but I think more people could benefit from a long walk in the park.

Our society is way too instant gratification, non commitment, non contemplative, IMHO
