Watch Guys - Loss of Accuracy

I have a 'half-decent' TAG watch, retails for about $1,000. This is my second TAG, one reason I bought another one is the accuracy, I never have to adjust them.

For the last few years watch #2 was super accurate, it never needed adjustment. Now I seem to be losing a minute or two every week. This has gone on for a few months now. It drives me crazy.

Is this fixable? Or am I screwed? What would cause this?

Is it battery or automatic, if auto you should send it in and get it fixed, just a cleaning might do it.

It is a battery. Typically my batteries last several years, this one is 16 months old.

Also, when the battery is low the second hand moves in 3-4 second increments and the watch still keeps good time. There is no sign of that issue right now.

Not sure but if the second hand is jumping 3-4 seconds I think that is an indication that the battery is running low.

There are internal adjustments even to battery watches I think, we have people here that are way more knowledgeable than me that can hopefully give you more info.

If it were me and I paid that much for a watch and it wasn't keeping good time I would take in in for service. YMMV

I have an older Tag that did the same thing, replaced the battery and all was well for a short time but eventually the movement failed and Tag said the could not get the parts to repair it. Very disappointed as it was a gift from my father. YMMV.

Accuracy? You want accuracy? Naw...The tags just look cool! Tiger Woods wears one, doesn't he?

If it's accuracy you're after, buy a quartz Seiko & be done with it...

First, never pay a large sum for a quartz watch, unless it is a collector's item, they are not worth it.

You could just need a new battery even if the low battery indicators are not telling you that. Also even quartz watches use some lubrication and a cleaning and relube might be in order.

Do not sink more than $25 to $35 into it.

The watch probably needs servicing as the oil gums with age. About 3-5 years in dry/cold climates. Like any other watch the accuracy degrades with time. Or possible it was magnetized, take it to the watch repair shop and they'll do it for a few bucks, that may be the cure.

My wife's F1 TAG did the same a few years ago. It was maybe 1996 vintage.

We took it to a good local watchmaker/smith/repair guy. He said the movements were crap and replaced it for $100 or so. Five years on - it's still working. I guess those cheap swatch/ETA parts weren't the most reliable.

No quartz from now on...

I have a Tiger Woods Tag thats at least five years old and works fine, kept better time than my Rolex, till I had it (the Rolex) serviced. It isn't a battery watch.

Why don't you have an authorized dealer send the watch back to the "factory" for a new battery and cleaning? Good chance that might just do the trick, from personal experience. It'll probably run you about $100 or so, unless there's more wrong with the watch that they uncover with the servicing. Local jeweler might do the same for the amount RPKESQ quotes, but without any assurance that they know what they're doing.
