USF1 team is nada

This is both surprising and disappointing.

Quote:

USF1 will not launch a renewed bid to debut in formula one in 2011.

The American team failed to be ready for its 2010 debut, but the recently quiet principals Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor had reportedly not ruled out trying to secure the final 13th berth on next year's grid.

The news emerged by way of a statement issued by engine supplier Cosworth, who said its contract with USF1 has been terminated.

Cosworth said it has taken the action "following the (USF1) team's decision to liquidate its assets as notified by its announcement to creditors dated 19 May 2010".

Cosworth said that until USF1 decided to liquidate, the British marque had supported the team "over the last few months" in preparing for "a proposed entry for the 2011 season".

The statement added: "Cosworth is a significant creditor of USF1, and will therefore join the other creditors of the team in seeking settlement of outstanding debts from the managed disposal of the remaining assets of the team."

Oh well. That is a shame.

Keep F-1 where it belongs..."over there". Seriously, this is sad.

The entire USF1 effort was/is an embarrassment to not only American F1 fans but to American open wheel racing fans, racers etc.

WTF were they thinking? We'll just wing it and pull the coin together as we go?

Thanks for a complete amateur effort KA, CH & PW...way to go!

Had my hopes up real high for a miracle that never materialized...

Oh well, life goes on

I'm not bitter, really ;)

its sad but I never really considered them as the real deal, for starters you can't be in N. America to race there, just ask Mike Andretti if it works.

The hopes for serious open-wheel racing in this country died with Champ Car/CART.

The Atlantic Series is fun, but will never be mainstream - the cars aren't powerful enough.

The IRL is a friggin' joke.

It's another casualty of the U.S. economy the way I see it. Why should F1 come here (or subsidize us to go there) when there are far more lucrative markets with far more money emerging (i.e. China, the middle east, SE Asia, etc.)? Those guys can "pay to play" and we can't.

Andretti was a driver, not a manufacturer. His decision not to hang in Europe between races to test wasn't a matter of distance but attitude.

While most of the race shops are in England - there's a large source of specialty shops supporting the F1 teams based there, that shouldn't have made that much of an impact on the team. They were based in NC (?) which has a sizable supply of machining and fabrication expertise as well.

I think it was a lack of funding support - sponsorship. Without a deep-pocket sponsor to foot the start-up costs, any team is behind the eight-ball. If they only needed a few mil more, maybe they could have called upon the F1 fans in the US for small donations until they could enlist more sponsors (or pay for the Cosworth engines they needed).

I wondered why they didn't do this. A paypal account would have generated a few million for sure. I'd have sent $100 to support a US team. Maybe I'm not the norm, but I'm often surprised at the number and knowledge of race fans at CART/INDY races who likely would help support the team.

A few million would be peanuts to a F1 team. They need HUNDREDS of millions to just put a car on the grid.

The odds of them having been on the grid in 2011 are about as good as F1 in Austin- 2012.

There is no Atlantic series.

Jeepers, when did this happen? Another casualty of this year? Tragedy if so. It was fun to watch.

What the heck did they run at LBGP this year? More stupid drifting?

Seriously?

I dunno, maybe 2012 'is' pushing it (cuz the world ends right ;)

If this group has the scratch and Austin wants to pay "The Bernie" his excessive fee, why wouldn't it happen?

I haven't read up (yet) on where the money is coming from in Austin, but I suspect someone had to step up otherwise they wouldn't have got this far?! Right?

Fingers crossed , again!

My cousins pad in Austin is amazing and will make an excellent base camp for an F1 weekend! I'll buy my tix as soon as they're available.
