Dumb question about computers

I don't know much about them but wondered why Microsoft doesn't have a way of hooking up with my computer and fixing all the little software glitches that arise from time to time. I have had a bunch of problems with MS word and Wordperfect lately and have reloaded the software for both and haven't fixed the problem. I might even pay them for the repair because I am so sick opf fiddeling the stuff.

It's not their business or worth their time. That's what the smaller, mostly local, IT shops are for. If MSFT started fixing PC's, what would the boys at Geek Squad do all day? :)

There is a way for IT folks to connect to your computer and fix it. The closest that Microsoft will come (unless you want to pay them) is with their patches.

I'm like you JM, don't know a lot. I think your problem may be with the OS, not the applications. You and I need to learn to format and reinstall the whole enchilada.

I have had these problems in the past with MSFT. In November, my wife and I switched to Apple and have been happy with it. (In spite of what you might hear from Island :D)

Best,
Tom

Microsoft's way of dealing with updates and glitches is Microsoft Update (used to be Windows Update). It works pretty well these days to keep your OS and apps current with compatibility updates, security patches etc. Make sure you either set your PC for "Automatic Updates" or at least hit it manually every month or two.

BTW we use PC's as well as Mac's -- neither platform is immune to glitchy software...
