Refoaming Speakers

I love my old Advent Maestro speakers and it's time for a refoam. Got the kit in, looks pretty straightforward. Anyone done it? Tips, tricks?

Not rocket science by any take and if you take your time and follow the directions and you'll be fine. The big issue s making sure the voice coil in centered in the magnet. Hopefully the kit comes with spacers that allow you to do that. Make sure the adhesive is fully set at each step before moving to the next.

ive done it. it was simple. just take your time and make sure, as said above, that its all centered with no scraping, before the glue dries

VERY easy, straightforward job. I've refoamed MANY of the old "Large" Advent and Dahlquist DQ-10 woofers (same driver). Just take your time.

Thanks, may tackle this tomorrow morning early.

bought this kit:

Looks like it's everything I need, and a little patience.

big project weekend.

speakers turned out great, let them dry 24 hours, tested successfully with Evanescence, loud. Just amazed at how good these speakers are. Thank you for the encouragement.

Are there any suggestions on who to buy the foam from? I have some neat old ARs and JBLs that need to be re-foamed and I do not wish to pay someone else or buy cheap replacements that will diminish the sound quality.

I have found several sellers of "foam kits" on Ebay for my Bang & Olufsen speakers. Assume that there are other brands there.

if you follow my link above, the kit I bought was excellent and speakers still sound great driven hard by a Hafler power amp and Rotel pre-amp.

I've bought kits from Orange County Speaker Works for my Infinity Column II's and put them in no problem and I had them do the re-edge on my Infinitesimal Fours and they came out great.

Orange County Speaker - Customer Comments

I don't think you'll be disappointed in their kits.

Sober is one, the first minute of Bring Me to Life and My Immortal among others. These were some of the songs used in buying equipment for a friend some time ago. There's A LOT built into these songs that you completely miss on even a decent mass market Yamaha/Denon/Onkyo/Bose system. She ended up with a lower end Rotel receiver and B&W 704s for about the same price as high end versions of Y/D/O/B that couldn't touch the Rotel/B&W combo.

Old Advent speakers are amazing. I have a pair of Advent/1s that my Dad bought brand new in 1978. I would put them up against a lot of speakers costing many times what these things cost.

Oh...and I refoamed them. Easy job.
