Vin numbers on my 70 targa

On the left windscreen post tab,,the alum. plate to the right of the hood latch,,and stamped on the right above the fuel tank is #9110112469,,, Marked under the dash pad ( removed ) in yellow what looks to be a marking pen of sorts just above the gages and stamped just under the radio opening is #1104054. My guess is the 9110112469 is the registration number and the 1104054 is the production number. If thats the case is this #4054 or #54 down the line. I know its not rare or anything just wondering if anybody knows. Down to the tub (almost) for a full restoration after being flooded,most likely will stay stock except for the 2.4L upgrade,and maybe upgrade the green paint to the 2010 green. Cheers

The 2469 is the unique part of the VIN. I'm not sure how the 1104054 plays in.

911 (The early cars start with this.)

011 = 1970, T, Targa

2469 = Unique to your car.

Arrow Search is your best friend

If you do a "dash writing" search you'll get a few thread like this one:

Factory Markings

Your Chassis No. 2469 denotes it was the 2469 911T Targa built in 1970

The Dash No. denotes it was the 4054 911T Coupe & Targa built.
This number should match your engine No.

Each chassis style had a it own set of Serialization numbers. Engines No's were for the total number of Coupes and Targa's built in that paticular model.. T, E,& S each had their own set of chassis and engine No's.

Thus my 69 911S has Chassis No 882 while it has engine No. 1185

The 882 means it is No. 882 Coupe built and the No. 1185 911S built for 1969. Which means about the middle of the production run. Thus the following sale date makes sense and further verifys that the car is original....This information comes from my Porsche Maintenance Record that came with the car when delivered on 4/24/69 at Ogner Porsche in Canoga Park, CA.

You can make a rough determination if your engine is original by comparing the how late in the run your engine and chassis were built...if you have an early chassis No. and a late engine No. something ain't right.

Very cool.

In Two Rivers case; 4054 - 2469 = 1585, so when this car was built there had been 2468 Targas and 1585 Coupes.

I had an old time instructor that went crazy when you said "Vin number". He claimed it was Repetitive:

V = Vehicle
I = Identification
N = Number

number = number

Dunno, was his hangup, not mine.......Carry on.......

My '68 911 has its VIN number number written in some type of grease pencil under the pad on top of the gauge pod.
