Apple iDock .... The next big thing
You heard it here first. I hate that the iPhone is so small.
I wouldn't mind if it was a little thicker (room for more battery capacity, Steve!) and both wider and longer. *My hands are not freakishly large, but I'm developing arthritis using this thing. *What would be really cool is for my hero Steve to come out with an "iDock" - yes you heard it here first. *The iDock would be the iPad sans guts (just the screen, battery and minimal processor to mate with the iPhone) and allow the iPhone to dock in it. * When not in a bar or being very mobile, the iPhone would be docked, but when headed out to the local cool drinking spot, the iPhone is more than enough. No need to have the iDick bulging out of your pants. *Com'on Steve. *Make it happen. * Come to thnk of it, the thing doesn't need Apple to make it...an aftermarket device manufacturer could make it happen. |
I'm pretty sure you can use the docking for ipad and use a wireless Bluetooth keyboard...
Someone at the apple store should be able to help you. |
No no...I don't want to buy an iPad nor a dock station with key board. I want a gutted iPad (for a lot less $ than a real iPad) or somthing the size of an iPad that I can slide my iPhone into. It would give me the ability to use my iPhone just like an iPad without me having to buy the iPad which is kinda redundant since I have an iPhone.
Watch...."island" will be here shortly with a pic of an iPhone undress an magnifying glass ;) |
Oh, what you need is the iped for just $105 its a tablet just like the ipad:

No. I want to use my iPhone in a pad. Same data same menu same web favorites. I don't want multiple devices even if the iped is cheap.
|
that idea is good but if you get a phone call do you undock the iphone or hold the ipad to your head? ;)
Nah... apple wants our money, they're not in the business of finding ways to save money. IMO for typing nothing beats a Blackberry (I have that as office phone). |
A gutted iPad would still have case, LCD touch screen and backlight/controller/driver chips, LiON battery and power/charging chips, audio amp/output, various connectors, etc. Need to add up the bill of materials plus assembly etc to see how cheap it could be. (Or, simply subtract the cost of the A4 chip and some NAND from the existing iPad's cost).
I suspect you'll find it is not far enough from the cost of a fully-functional iPad to attract many buyers. Most people would say what a ripoff, for only $___ more I can get an actual iPad. It's not worth AAPL or other major OEM making this unless you can sell many tens of millions of units. How many docking devices sell many tens of millions of units? They're very niche-y products usually. |
I want a ballpoint pen with a voice recognition computer.
The screen can be projected on a wall - or the bald guy's dome in front of you, or to your sunglasses. When I plug it in to a desktop it use that keyboard & screen if I want. For vehicles, I am still up in the air over whether to have a magic carpet or a flying saucer. |

And magic carpet all the way... flying saucer, what are you a idiot? |
